Well we went up to Lewiston with the intent to fish in the river, Only to find it to be 100% barbless ! screw that. We werent about to smash the barbs on our flys just to fish there so we kind of cruised around. Fished a couple creeks around trinity and caught some little native rainbows maybe 5-6" long then hit the lake and i landed a nice 18" rainbow ( On that gold perch kastmaster even!) over by coffee creek.

Did a little more cruising and hit some more creeks and found a nice pool with probably 10-12 trout hanging out in it. I was only able to pull one 12" rainbow out  real nice fish. Couldnt have been happier to catch it on my flyrod too.  I wish we would have got pictures =\

Yea, it's barbless fly from just below the dam to the lewiston bridge.  You guys went way up there if you went up by coffee creek!  You'll hafta let me know where that little pool is too  :wink2:

Glad you got into some fish!

Oh yea, I just meant the portion from the bridge up is fly only, while lures and bait are a go below the bridge.  You'd be surprised how many hooks and lures I pull off the bottom of the river with the barbs still  :ack:

Went again the other day and did pretty well, and pulled up a nice panter martin, actually a large and small one.  We went catfishing and it was a bust, grabbed our salmon gear and headed to the trailhead and sat there for almost an hour waiting for the sun to begin to show.

The salmon were THICK!  3-5 jumping at any given time, trout jumping all over too.  I had on a nice one within a couple casts, then lost it when my line broke.  Landed a nice one with good coloring... and roe  :gap:  and had tons of line bumps and/or hits.  Switched to something I'd never tried before but had pulled up on broken lines and started getting frequent hits!  I now have a new, cheaper secret weapon  ;)

We hooked some douches across the river who kept blatantly casting over our lines, then shortly before we were going to leave I hooked a hog.  Longest fight I've had with a salmon in a while too!  Big old male, kinda ugly, but had great looking meat!

I knew it was coming!  I wanted to take pics of it sitting on the platter after I cut it up cause it looked absolutely amazing, but didn't want to touch my phone with salmon hands.  Also stopped taking my phone anywhere with me since it began eating fresh batteries super quick.  Next time, might even try getting a little video of them jumping  :dunno:

Very nice!  Hoping to go myself since I always seem to miss the early season here.

And I'm pretty sure I started this thread before we had our own outdoor section, so please feel free to start your own threads on your hunts/adventures or start an official thread for upland game, ducks, deer, whatever floats your boat

I got me one of them elusive black tail's this morning at 7:15 :D gotta love that it was opening day and at the start of the morning. I dont think i could be any happier for my first buck !

Bout 75 yard downhill shot.. Totally forgot to correct for downhill and shot him right in the spine. He didnt move an inch, Just dropped right to the ground and died on the spot.  I'll have to get some other pics off my dads phone and our camera. Thats all i had at the moment on mine.

Damn right, son!  Way better than the little one that started trotting right up to my truck this morning.  I stopped at a corner to see if I could see tire tracks down another road and a small fork jumps out and starts trotting right toward my truck.  I started to ready the camera to snap a pic of him, then remembered that bucks often travel in 2's in early season, grabbed my gun and checked for his non-existent buddy.  Woulda been a sub 25 foot shot with no dragging involved, but still not worth it to burn a tag for so little meat.

Huge congrats!  You gonna get another tag?

Oh yea, and looking at your pic it looks like we made the same mistake on our first deer.  Mine was down at the bottom of a cut about 200 yards away and I broke his back just like that.

Thanks man! I may get another tag  but for B zone. It kind of depends on work and if my dad and my buddy can fill theirs. We went up today and saw 7 bucks since the weather was working in our favor ( Lots of cloud cover and eventually started to rain) but they couldnt get a shot on any of them =(  They were super skiddish today for some reason, Not like yesterday with my buck with his running across the road and down the hillside a bit to stop and turn around doing their " DUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR WHAT WAS THAT?" move they do.

I have a feeling the tags will be filled soon though =)  But for now its just mountain quail and some coyote calling. Maybe bobcat if i feel like getting a tag book.

Thats funny you did the same thing !  keeps them from running away though right ?  :gap:

Odd, the little buck I saw this morning is the only one I saw all day, and I didn't see one on opening weekend either.  I don't count my quick little 30-45 minute hunts I've been getting in on my way in the night before, but I haven't seen anything on those either, though I did see a couple bucks running together on the drive up last night.

It is a sweet round. It's a .404 Jeffery case necked down for a .308 bullet so the 308 has alot of  :moon: behind it.

I'm thinkin about goig with a night force optics or another leupold since I have a leupold on my 270

Yeah dad had one once. It was nice and flat shootin too. The STW is a 8mm Magnum with a 7mm in it. Night Force are great scopes but so are Leupold. I have a Leupold VX III on my Ruger No. 1 and its a nice piece.

I have a vx-lll 3.5x10x50 with Boone and crockette cross hairs on my 270 and i love it. but I wish i had a slightly higher zoom on my 270. but If i get another leupold, I will probably get a mark-4 or a nightforce
