My uncle got a buck last day of the season and a friend of his just got back from Colorado. So I ended up getting some Elk and venison in the freezer. Two days ago I was at a customers house and just happened to see his picture holding up this huge monster elk and got to talking about it. He also just got back from Colorado, bagged a 850lb elk and a 250ld deer. At first he asked me if i'd like to have some elk jerky that he had just made so I said "sure"  .... I explained to him that I never take anything from customers, just feel weird about it but I love Elk meat. So before I left he loaded me up a bag of elk and venison... !!!   It was awesome. He gave me some good cut's too.

I bbq'd elk burgers tonight and they really hit the spot. I havn't had elk or venison in so long it really brought back some good memories.

Planned on going out hunting this weekend, but I injured my back at work so now i'm stuck sitting around watching tv....

Congrats man  :woohoo:  So much easier to pack out that than a hog!  Get ready for some great roasts and stew, not mention sausage if you like it.

Nice hog!  What area are you hunting?  I went out a couple times last month but didn't see any on the land we hunt.

Not hunting but fishing.

Salmon season opend on the feather on the 16th! =D went out today with the intent of catching some salmon but that was a bust =(.. nothing but a couple hits all morning till about 11 so we decided to head to the ponds and the perch were spawning.. We were catching them so quickly we might aswell have just scooped them with a net ! lol.. Caught a little guppy of a bass also

Came back home around 2 or so then back out at around 4 to try again at some salmon..  Ended up catching a freaking Sacramento sucker

and a freaking pikeminnow..

I want some damn salmon!

Patience, my good man!  I went over to the trinity river last sunday to clear the trail to my fishing hole and heard several salmon jump while clearning brush and vines.  River was still flowing too fast to effectively fish there, but I still gave it a shot for a couple hours and lost a kastmaster.  There seem to be more snags than I'd like in there  ;)

Oddly, the fish I was seeing seemed very dark already.  We'll see how the meat looks when I catch one  :gap:

Aye i think it will pick up in a week or two, They dont even have the fish ladder running at the hatchery  right now . Gonna keep an eye on that and hopefully when it starts going it will be good fishing. I hear tales of steel head and striper though!

I usually fish with a friend, and we either have sunday or sunday to go.  Any tips on what to use?  Neither of us have ever been for stripers, though I have caught a few shad out of the sac.

I honestly dont know. Ive only been striper fishing once and we were using chovies as we were also fishing for catfish, That was on the sac also.  I'll talk to a guy that works for my dad and see if he has any ideas. Since salmon is slow right now i might go brave the outlet for some. Hopefully they dont make it totally off limits there, I was reading on a site about people above the salmon marker ( 1000 feet down from the outlet for salmon)  catching salmon and the "lure" of choice were bronze trebbles and 3-5 oz of lead... =\

Fanfrickintastic man!  What were you flingin?

I went super early last sunday and landed a 5ish pounder jack, hooked a 10-12 pounder that got away, then hooked an 18-20 pounder (I thought it was 15-18 but an older indian fishing next to us insisted it was 20+) which lept at least 5 feet in the air and pitched my hook.  No worries though, I had it hooked in the tail and was going to let it go anyway.

Caught him on a kastmaster  gold/green zebra stripe kind of pattern. it was a 1/2 ounce i think :headscratch:

looks like the middle one in this pic. Sorry for the small size its the only one i could find with that color/pattern!

I guess its called a Gold/Perch

It was pretty funny i hooked it maybe 15-20 feet at most away from me so it followed it in for a while we think, 2 grown ass men ( me and my buddy) were freakin out over this fish getting it in. We didnt have a net, my buddy is jumping down into the water to help bring it up the rocks. We finally get it up and its taking both of us to hold it down in the crotch of a rock while im trying to jam my knife in its head to kill it and keep it from flopping back in the water since my lure broke off once we got it up on shore all the while trying not cut/hook myself .  It was a blast!

Hey great minds think alike!

:yesnod:  and I certainly hope you're throwing those pikeminnows up on the shore  ;)

Haven't been to lewiston lake this year, never had a lot of luck there either, but there are supposed to be some really nice trout in there!

I havent been but ive been thinking about feeding the local coyotes.. I know they are pretty hard on the salmon/steelhead smolt  in the area but so are the stripers. I'll probably start doing that from now on

My dad says there is a lot of trout below the hatchery  and that is a fly only area for a while  so going to give that a shot first then kind of bounce around. Ive never been so im not sure what to expect but i hear tales of huge german browns and rainbows
