Bow season is open, any good reports yet?  Hot as hell right now, but there've been some cooler days too, and it kinda looks like rifle season may well be cooler than usual.

Fishing trip was canceled so I decided to head out early and scout a spot by hayfork.  Nothing, didn't see even a doe.  Walked a ways back a blocked off road and barely even saw any recent sign, so I'm thinking they're still congregated in the high lying areas.  Planned on driving a ways up the adjacent dirt road to check for sign too but the truck started hard like it had low fuel pressure so I figured it best to just head home.  Did see lots of very large bear piles though  :gap:

Got the scope mounted on my .308 today and got my first deer tag.  Going to see if I can find an inexpensive, low profile kick pad, then go sight it in before work.  Getting close!

:haha:  I'll probably be closer to home since I only have sunday off.  Hopefully the recent colder weather has pushed more of them down toward hayfork for you!

Bummer Matt!  Weird though, I hunted a few places in the hayfork area today and barely saw anybody else.  Saw 4 deer there, stopped by my parent's to say hi and headed up the mountain by their house.  Got a ways up the hill and noticed a deer bedded like 10 feet above the road, then noticed a buck above it.  A little buck, but I could tell it was a legal spike fork.  Got out and snapped pics of both, then tried spooking off the buck so it wouldn't get shot.  It played still for a while, then turned to look at me and wouldn't leave.  Talked to it, raised and waved my hands, snapped my fingers, and nothing was working.  Tried climbing the hill toward it but it was too steep and loose, so I tried spooking off the doe, again tried climbing right in front of it and it just looked at me like it was my dog.  It finally spooked off, then after another minute or two of trying the buck left in no big hurry.

The majority of the people i saw were in the indian valley area  and yeah sucks about those forkys =(. Some of the deer up there are just that.. puppy dogs. Its really not good, We were visitng one of my dads friends over by talroca in hayfork and there were 2 doe's 2 yearlings and a good size spike just hangin out in the front yard.. could have almost nudged them with the truck they just didnt care.

What areas did you end up hunting in the hayfork area? might have come across ya haha

Aimed for hayfork summit but a dude was already there, so I kept going since it's kind of a richard move to hunt in behind somebody.  Went about 1/3 the way down toward the valley and headed up a dirt road that shoots off to the right, which is where I saw the first 2 deer.  Headed down to carr creek next, parked at the gate and walked about 2 hours in and saw 2 more deer.  Left there and headed a little way out wildwood, where I saw at least 3 rigs road hunting - full on driving slow on the paved road "hunting"  :shake:

After that was when I headed to stocker's place then up the hill nearby.  Shoulda told you to look for the red lb first gen on 33s... never know when it's gonna break down on me  :talkingn:

ahh  i think we snaked around behind you a bit. we hit 36 up near peanut i think.. right near a creek i cant remember its name but it was a type of rattler haha, i wish i knew the area better. Well hopefully i'll be up there next weekend 1 bear tag richer and hopefully with my wheeler so we can really get back in there.

Pretty stoked, we mentioned to my uncle about ho humming about getting a bear tag and he was pretty much " You want a bear? get a tag we'll get you a bear"  They are suposedly pretty thick and alot of the locals want them gone.

Can you still get D tags this late?  I don't remember too well, but isn't it a smaller zone with a lower tag limit?  I know C always sold out super fast up here, then the douches turned it into a draw zone since some douches down south were too lazy to get to dfg in time and cried to their local dfg reps  :shake:

I know you used to be able to just go into DFG office and get a tag if there were any left over. My dad   used to do this in redding but many moons ago so it could be different now.

Word, used to be you only had to put your name in a hat for stuff like special hunts and X zone hunts.  Things are changing.  If that changes for B zone, I may well hang up my rifles and just stick to birds.

Here are the pics of the doe and small, well, tiny buck I saw by her.  Spooked them both off so nobody would shoot the little guy, but if he'd only been a bit bigger!  Can't tell in the pic that he's legal, but when he turned his head you could see about a 1" split on one side.

It has nothing to do with hunting really, but on my way out I saw this super clean fj40 and had to snap a pic.

D zone is pretty big because it includes D3, D4 and D5. I've never heard of D zone selling out.
