Possibly picking up an 00 Taco
« on: Feb 22, 2010, 02:57:27 PM »
I'm looking at a 2000 Taco 4x4, auto, 3.4 liter and 116,000 on the odo. on Wednesday, is there anything I should be looking at in particular?  He said there is a slight ticking from the engine every now and then, what could that be?  I'm stationed in Italy so I can't really just take it to the shop to have it checked out, so any info I can get from you guys before I spend $6600 would be nice.  Thanks everyone.

My old 3.4 used to do a light ticking noise also.  I never could find a definitive solution...  But the truck ran great and never had an issue.  So I let it go.

On that year, just look for frame rust.  There is a recall out on the frames, because some of them rotted really bad.  It's hard to tell without really close inspection, but you could have a look at the steering rack too.  Particularly the bushings, and the condition they are in.  Check CV boots...  Oh and the rear leaf springs...they like to go inverted after awhile.  Then all the other indicators of a good running vehicle.  Excessive dirt that may indicate leaks, rust, modifications, etc.  With low mileage like that, I bet its good to go if they took decent care of it...even if they didn't.

Thanks for the replies guys.  I'm all over this truck because we have some pretty slim pickens in Northern Italy, but I don't want to get hosed either.
