Pilot bearing.
« on: Jan 17, 2010, 11:52:03 AM »
Just a quick question. How important is that $ 4.20 pilot bearing for installing that new 1600 pound clutch. Some how ihave lucked out and had this item left out on my order.. I still have the previous bearing didn't know if I could continue to use it..

Just feel it to make sure its good. I change mine like every other clutch I put in. But it is cheap to do it anyways and not have to worry about it. Go get a high quality one from a parts store, like koyo or timkim bearing
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

For future reference, it's a common sized bearing.

Look up the part number, and get the bearing of your choice from a bearing store for much cheaper............

i would change it no matter what when you do a clutch, its sort of just just preventative maintenance. And because i never want to change the input bearing in my transmission...plus i get em for like 5 bucks

Do it while its apart.  Cheap insurance to save you from pulling it all apart in a month.

Your already there, might as well do it.  Call Marlin and get them to send ya one.  It was supposed to come with the kit, and you already paid for it.   :yesnod:

i once had a pilot bearing stick to the transmission shaft while on the truck. the only way to get it off was to disasemble the clutch with a home made tool with the transmission attached to the truck. man it was not fun.

the clutch is attached to the motor and does not require special tools to take off so if it stuck to the imputshaft y would you dissasemble the clkutch? im so confused here ??? :headscratch:

The input shaft won't slide out of the clutch disk if the pilot bearing is stuck on the spigot of the tranny's input shaft....

The pilot bearing is a common metric bearing.

If you have the dimensions, you can get it cheaper than autoparts store  (internet, ebay, bearing supply, mcmaster-carr)
