Rolled Runner (aka Golden Tacoma) NEW TACOMA!
« on: Dec 20, 2009, 06:39:57 PM »
Had this:

Specs: :turtle3:

1986 Toyota 4Runner
SAS 5” Alcan Springs
3.8 Oldsmobile Motor
Toyota W56
Stock Dual Cases
37” MTRs with TR Avalanche Beadlocks
E-Locker Rear
High Angle Driveshafts F/R
Budbuilt Crossmember
Custom F/R Bumpers and Sliders
Rear Disc Brakes
All-Pro E-Brake
Custom Interior
2” BL

I bought this Toyota from a guy in Golden off craigslist well I rolled it after the first 6 hours of owning it on Eagle Rock up near Colorado Springs where my brother in law lives.

As of now I need a new windshield sunroof and top. It shouldn’t be too bad to fix I think a new windshield will go in but I’m going to have to massage the roof to get my new sunroof in. The bushwakers that were on there are all off now due to the roll.
My plans are:

Cage (All Pro) got one used ready to go
dirty 30's
12V Guy Panel
Front locker
Lower the Truck 2”
Cage
Trim fenders to accommodate lowering
Harnesses for the next time I roll
Twin Sticks
Half Doors
4.7 in the rear case
Rock Lights
Winch
Fog Lights
CB

Now some pictures:

And the maiden Voyage:

And one last one of my old 85 pimping regular cab

Ok the way it rolled was i was coming down off the trail and the tire flexed up into the fender causing the truck to studder, where the rear end got light and you can see the rest.

Currently up in the air about how to lower the truck. I want to remove the BL but the bumpers, crossmember, shifters and sliders are setup for the body lift and I’m thinking this is wayyyy to much work I’m willing to commit to plus having to sell and buy new parts to replace.

I am looking at 2 options first removing 1-2 springs from the leaf packs to lower it down a bit. Second would be to just sell my springs and go with RUF and Chevys. Again a lot of work but the truck has to be lower that is half the reason I rolled it so top heavy.

Any thoughts on the current status let me know what you think. I am selling the rear bumper when I get to Colorado I believe it makes the truck a bit top heavy plus it’s a little bit too much bling for my needs. I want to have the truck ready to wheel hard for summer.

I am in Broomfield Colorado so if anyone wants to stop by and have a beer or 2 and work on the truck let me know!!

Now i got this

I dont think its your bumper makin it tippy. I think just its a tall 4runner thats why its floppy.Take the BL out and lower the springs like you were saying i bet that helps alot.

Your leaf springs with a couple leafs taken out will be sooo much better than RUF and Chevys...

thats kinda the way i look at it but alcans are custom made and thats why im nervous about it. I think i am going to try that as soon as i get back out there and see where it gets me.

Im selling rear bumper to for cash its total bling bling just don't really need it

Yeah even if they are alcans. I would take one out of each pack test for hieght just because there usually pretty soft as is. Also how many leafs are in each pack?

If you even take 2 or 3 out than you can just run bump stops accordingly and won't have to worry about them getting de-arched unless you get some mad axle rap due to less springs.

Looks like the runner had been on its side before on the drivers side? Or did it roll completlely over?

x2 about what jud said, I know people who buy the 5inch springs just to take leafs out make them a 3inch lift pack but they will twist up and work ten times better then if you were to buy 3" springs

i like the idea of bump stops and less springs i think i might roll with that...

yes i completely rolled it and had no seat belt on  :hammerhead: last time that happens....

the rear shackle is HUGEEEEEEEEE too the front is a normal sized one

The top on it was herculined too which makes the truck super top heavy(doubled the weight)

has anyone ever connected a incab cage to the stock roll bar? I was toying with the idea just to add some passenger coverage plus i would like to attach it all to the frame.

Sorry to hear about the damage on the maiden voyage.  I've wheeled Eagle Rock several times.  I'd suggest doing whatever you can to lower it.  I'd start by pulling a leaf from each pack.  You can also shorten that rear shackle.

I'll catch ya on the CO trails this summer.  You need to attend the CO4RJ for sure, by far the biggest gathering of Toyota's in CO for a weekend of wheeling fun.

what about full widths, that compensate for the added height? I have the same height prob on my rig but have an exo and a winch mounted under the rear so lowering would be a pia. welcome to co from loveland

We didn't get around to the cage; maybe this weekend it'll happen. Snow wheeling... er, rather snow stuck-ing pics will be up soon; I'm looking for my camera cable. Let's just say "I got lockers and a winch!" was the catchphrase of the night. That, or "I can't feel my feet!"

old stage road...

we ran into a field with some lets say big drifts.... if dan didnt have a winch we might have all road down in a pickup truck bed... or made camp hahaha

the cage didnt go in because i need some DOM to finish it up but im planning on working on it this week...

i sold the rear bumper on the truck but the guy who bought it hooked me up with his old one for free.. score

i decided im going to try the 5" springs and just get rid of front bumper and sliders and get some addicted offroad equipment instead that way i can throw a winch on the front

i am also gonna chop the fenders a bit and tub the firewall im thinking and maybe drill a hole in the spring plate to move my axle forward a bit

was super impressed with the motor it can haul ass........ now that i am somewhat getting the gears down i love it. I am hoping there is some pics or a video of my last blast through the snow hahahha

i have toyed around with that idea... it wouldnt be too bad to just swap some in and i think that would help alot.

I would have to change my wheels and tires which i don't really want to and i would still like to drive it on the road some and full widths are a bit much... maybe in the future with 40s

see what made me consider it is i could prob sell my axles and with the money i was going to buy longs with get close to having the money for full widths... i just don't like how wide they are when you are wheeling... and driving on the road. if it was trailer only then i would prob do it

I have been planning on building a custom set with some high end LEDs, when you get those in I would love to check them out if thats cool with you. I was curious how bright they actually are.
