84 pickup high school build..
« on: Oct 23, 2009, 11:34:40 PM »
I'm a senior in high school trying to build my truck up. I go to school 5 days a week and I work 5 to 7 days a week and my days off are usually during the week so progress will probably be kind of slow. This is my dd and it sucks when it's not driveable. Enjoy!

Specs:
1984 toy pu
std cab extra cab
long bed short flatbed
22r new 22r

Plans

Front:
RUFDone
Daves No Death Wobble ShacklesDone
TG spring hangerDone
Pro Comp es3000 shocksDone
Daves shock towers Done
U-bolt flipDone
High-steerDone
IFS box w/ ps setupDone
Axle gussetDone
Diff. armorDone
Front bumper
Long's
5.29'sDone
LockerDone
Wheel spacersDone
Square driveshaftDone

Rear:
IFS rear axleDone
63" Chevy'sDone
Pro Comp es3000 shocksDone
U-bolt flipDone
Sky's shackle/mount/hanger kitDone
Rear shock hoopDone
5.29'sDone
LockerDone
Box rear of frameDone
FlatbedDone

Misc.:
Dual t-cases
Dave's motor mounts Done TG mounts
Remove 3" bl Done
Flat belly
Sliders
Exo

Truck when I got it:
3" bodylift, 32" m/t's everything else stock

 :gap:

About 3 months after I got it:
New 33" km2's, herculined bed, cleaned it up and made it look real nice and through some bucket seats in it

and had fun with that for awhile:

Then I got the cab off and through in my rear suspension

It came out nice n low like I wanted it too. I pushed the hanger 14" forward. I used 1/8" 2x3 to slide into the frame about a foot and I used 1/8" 2x4 for the cross member. 63" chevy's, 3 leaf w/o overload, Tg u-bolts, Sky chevy kit, Dave's shock hoop going on and procomp shocks and I'm also gonna sink in a hitch receiver in the crossmember. My stock driveshaft will still work, I just need some shims cus dl angle isn't to great..

And then I got all my interior button up with these new seats and that leaves me where I'm at today

I have everything for my front suspension and steering in my garage. I'm just waiting for a cuple more pay checks so I can get my longs, axle rebuild kit, gussets and armor so I can do that all at once.

I got a couple lil things to do to get the motor running and I have to swap out my intake gasket becase it's leaking coolant, I might have ripped it putting it on or something??

So the next things to get done on the truck are:

1)Get my motor running and break it in

2)Get the front suspension and the axle all build and put together

3)Build my flatbed

Hopefully have this stuff done^^ and have it diveable/wheelable but the end of this year

Then:

4)Save up for duals and then build my flatbelly and do driveshafts

5)Find a good deal on some 37's

6)Sliders, exo, bumpers and winch

And then hopefully have this stuff done buy next summer

Sounds like a good plan for sure.

I did the same thing you're doing I was working anywhere from 30-40 hours a week and going to school 5 days a week full days as a senior and from august when I got my third gen to the time I was out of school I managed to get it locked front and rear new springs front and rear sliders bumpers duals 37s and some random stuff. Just plug away at it and stuff gets done for sure.

The truck looks good to I like extra cabs on std cab frames keeps the wheel base nice and short
89 extra cab stock on 1 tons.
83 rolled with built toy axles
92 2wd DD
first gen cab

Check out the build.

Thanks, yea thats what I'm working right now too. I've only had 3 full days off to work on my truck and this is how far I've gotten on it and I almost never wrench on after work or school. I'm planning on taking a weekend off in a couple weeks and get 1, 2 and 3 done. And it's a std cab long bed frame so it's the same wheelbase as an ext cab shortbed, I did move the rear end a couple inches forward though..

where are you located im looking to sell my 37s 85-90% tread on brand new 15x8 wheels

I don't really have the money right now cus I need to get other stuff done but do you have a thread or some pics, what are they?

looking good man wish i had more time for my project

Thanks, me too..

well depending on what title you have you can swap vins.... or register it as the extra cab if you have a title anything really they won't know and don't a bunch of my buddies swapp cabs and just rock old vins because thats thhe frame vin and its easier also making insurance for them cheaper.

but a lot of times theres extra plugs there for like factory ac and factory sr5 stuff I would imagine because every toyota i work on has extra plugs somewhere.
89 extra cab stock on 1 tons.
83 rolled with built toy axles
92 2wd DD

Check out the build.
