The trashy trailer...
« on: Aug 02, 2009, 02:56:48 AM »
So my wife (peanut) and I headed to Portland OR yesterday to have a gander at our new crawlerhauler..  What a steaming pile of crap!  But the price is right so the deal was made. :gap:

Couldn't tell ya what year it is, or even what brand but I can tell you it's 39' long and a 5th wheel running 6 lug axles. Kinda sad that's all the specs I have on it but I do have pics.

And if you look closely you can see it has a sweet bulge and a flat spot on the corner in the middle where a tree or something fell on it once upon a time.

This plywood is the remnants of the tip out that is still somewhat there.  We'll have to probably punch a hole in the sides and put 2x4's on the outside and a ratchet strap through the middle to hold that pile of junk together to get home.

Over all this camp trailer is a steaming pile of scrap metal.. Buuuuut once I get that crap off the chassis will make a GREAT trailer to haul the yota and a camper on.  We are headed back down to drag the carcass home in a couple weeks once the owner gets his crap emptied out of it.  I'm stoked.  :eyebrow:

I saw a setup like what you said your gonna do with a camper and rig behind it before. It was pretty cool! I wouldn't think twice about doing a similar setup.

A buddy of mine did the same setup but he didn't do anything to make it easy to get the camper on and off the trailer.  He has to either stack cribbing under the jacks or take with tires and wheel soff the trailer and pull it out in the gravel. :gap: I am putting 1x1x3/16" angle iron face down on the edges and buying some wheels made for running on that.  It will make life easy to load and unload the camper when I'm going on a short run or with more than my truck.  Just roll it to the back and drop the jacks.

Best idea yet... :gap:

The structure itself is TOAST!  I'm kind of sketchy if it'll even make the trip back home...  Kyota I would have called but it was a last minute deal that turned into a next morning thing so all in all it was kind of a cluster.  But we'll be back in 2 weeks, I'll meet up with ya then.

There is a guy up in Kelso that offered the use of his driveway for partial demolition so we can at least get it home without losing a wall or two.. :hahaha:  I'm headed down next time with bearing buddies and new tires/wheels.  Stuck on going with 16's or stepping up to 17" stock GM wheels and dodge E rated take offs instead..  Either one would probably cost the same as I'd be doing most of the shopping at the wrecking yard. :gap: I have nice 15" alloys that'd look sweet on it but I need more capacity than 15's will provide...

Well it's home, we just rolled in the driveway a few minutes ago..  We tore part of the drivers side wall out and added some supports to it.  We then added 3/4" plywood to the outside and wrapped it in chains and straps.

The whole structure is falling apart, as a matter of fact the driver side fell about 3" on the way back, the roof is coming apart and the front portion is starting to settle...  But the price was right and the tires didn't blow... :hahaha:  I'll post pics in the daylight, it is rather funny what happened on the way back. :gap:
