Hi everyone,
I just wanted to say hello, and hopefully get the ball rolling on my project! I own a few Toyota's including my 79 4x4 pick up and my FJ60, but the pick up is now the focus.
The 79 4x4 S/B is 100% stock, even the wheels and hub caps! The truck currently has 37,000 miles on it. The first 20,000 miles were put on between 1979 and 1982, and the remaining 17,000 were put on between 82 and 09. Since 1982 the truck was only used as a parking lot plow truck. The problem with the truck is RUST! The bottom line is that the frame and the body are way beyond repair.
So my goal is to find a good 79 4x4 S/B (without rust) that I can swap everything over from my truck. I don't care much about the engine or trans, as I have all good parts. Without a doubt rust is the biggest concern. I think I could go as far as 1983 for a donor truck, but I want the 79 dash and round headlights? At this point I can't post in the class section, so I also need to get my post count up.   So if anyone knows of a stock 79 S/B 4x4 without rust, please let me know, I need a summer project! I want this truck to have it's former glory back!

Thanks,
Zack

I was getting all excited that this may be a pristine rig and you go and bust my bubble.

you'll need to look to the southern states for a good 79-83 cab

all your 79 stuff will swap right into the 83 cab (if thats what you find)

if you keep the 20R and L43 transmission  any year cab will work fine, but if you swap to a later 5 speed  you'll want to find a 81-83 the trans tunnel is taller in those years

Well if you don't count the rust, it is pristine! The truck is TOTALLY original, with the exception of tune up parts, and three tires the remainder of the truck is as it rolled off the assembly line.

Unclejp4x4 is from NJ but all he's good at is drinking  and stinking up your bathroom so I don't know how much help he would be.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

I want to keep everything from the 79, even the round headlights, I am not a fan of the square lights.

Zack
the holes are in the body to mount the round headlight buckets in the 82-83 trucks but you have to find small bolts cause the y dont have the nuts welded on those holes
