My Family Needs Your prayers
« on: Mar 06, 2009, 03:00:54 PM »
I'm not a religious man but right now I could use some help from a higher power, We just found out Wednesday night my 2 year old son has Wilms Tumors in his kidneys. He has also been battling with pnuemonia which is how we came to find out about the tumors. The tumors are about the size of grapefuits in both of his kidneys, they are going to start Chemotherapy today to try and shrink them down, that will will go on for 6 weeks. After the 6 weeks they will go in and do a biopsy to make sure it is Wilms. We are currently staying at the Ronald Mcdonald house in Madera which is next to the Childrens hospital. I am not looking for any pitty, I just wanted to post this up on the board to see if any of you have dealt with something like this before and know what the future might bring for my family.

Thank You, Aaron Burke

I definitely feel for you brother. My daughter went into a diabetic coma  at 15 months and the prognosis was poor. It was the worst feeling having her be in a position that I had no control over. We were told so many worst case scenarios , none of which thank God ever came true. I learned to take great comfort in prayer because it was the only thing I could do, and found it a powerful tool. The one positive thing that I took from the month long experience was to not take my family for granted. Unfortunately, I guess it took something like that for me to recognize what my priorities are. God bless you and your family, and we will keep you in our prayers.

I will pray for your family and your son.  I know that there are miracles that happen, and the doctors are getting more and more information on these kinds of problems every day.  My daughter had to go through some very minor things when she was younger and I would have rather it been me that had to go through it.  You have to be strong for your son and family.  Hang in there and let the Marlin board know if there is anyway we can help.

Thank You everybody for the kind words. Last night around 7pm he had his first chemo treatment, everything went good and he slept through the night. We are still having problems with his blood pressure being high and are working to solve that issue. He is definitly a fighter and WILL pull through this!

Some people have asked for my sons name, it is Aaron Matthew Burke II

Thank You again

Little A and the rest your family will be in my prayers.

Wow, I just can't imagine going through this. Things like this always serve to remind me how richly blessed I am.

Update on Bubba (thats what we call him)
his first chemo treatment has been going well. His kidneys are so large right now that they are pushing on all of his other organs (sp). So whenever we try to give him some water or food we have to keep it in very small doses so he wont throw up.
Today is the first day that he has been able to have some normal food, Apple sauce! one of his favourites.
He is not his normal rowdy, talkative (sp) self yet and I know he wont be for awhile, I think that is one of things that is hard for me to deal with right now. Just watching him lay there with all of the IV tubes and monitors pluged in to him and not being able to hold him is a tuff one.
Hug your young ones and give them love.

Thanks again for everybodies kind words, I will try to keep you updated but the only time I can have a moment on the Comp. is when my wife takes over watching bubba so I can take a shower and relax a little.

A few people have asked if I need any financial help. If you would like to help out, I would sudjest to donate to a Ronald Mcdonald house. It is an awesome organization and is ran only by donations. It only costs a family of 4, 15 dollars a night to stay and they have all the comforts of home available to them.

Sunday night update:

We are out of ICU and in a nice private room. WOOHOO

Bubba is doing good and was able to keep his food down finally.
now we just need to focus on getting those tumors down, the worst one in his right side is the size of a softball. We also found out that when they are able to do surgery, they are going to take the worst one completly out.

thanks guys,

Day 4 of the first chemo treatment.

Today was a good day, we got some more food down him without it coming back up. Been watching spongebob and Thomas the train all day.
His kidney functions have stayed the same which is good and bad, we would like to see them get better but they arent getting worse which is good.
His blood pressure is getting better with meds, but we need to see it regulate without them. so hopefully that will start getting better.

I just started taking video today and will be taking a journal of our experiance. Since he is so young, I thought it would be cool for him to see it when he is older.

not much has changed in the past few days, we are just trying to keep him in a good mood. he is having some problems with swelling, mainly in his testicles so he is in pain a bunch.
Thanks again for all of your thought and prayers.
