injectors wont fire
« on: Mar 04, 2009, 09:58:54 AM »
I recently swapped a 22r out of an 83 pickup in to my 85 4runner. I completed the swap making the R motor in to an RE and now it wont run. It has spark and is in time it also has fuel pressure at the cold start injector but i used a noid and it wont fire. I didn't hook up the oil pressure wire. Could this unhooked wire keep it from running because it is telling its self that it doesn't have oil pressure and is trying to cut its self off. Or is this a wiring problem? Any help is very greatly appreciated. Thanks.

the oil pressure wire doesnt matter, it is probably either a wiring problem or its not getting fuel.  did u loosen the cold start injector  tube to see if there is fuel pressure?

yes I loosened the fuel line going to the cold start injector and it has plenty of fuel pressure. I used a noid light on the injector wire and they are not getting any fire?

Did you hook up your injector resistor?

The noid lit up at no time while i was turning the motor over. I swapped the ECU with another one and still nothing.

I know this is a dumb question but did you install an EFI fuel pump in the Gas tank or as least a pump capable of enough fuel pressure?    ...............and wire it to work?
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

my truck was an EFI to begin with. so yes i know the fuel system is good. i already said that i had fuel pressure. its just the fact that the injectors arent getting the signal to open. thanks

The injector resistor is that heat sink looking thing by the fuse box on the passenger side of the engine compartment.  I can't remember how this is positioned in the injector circuit though.

Are the injectors getting power to them at all?  They should have power to them with the ignition turned to the "On" position.  The switching on/off of the injectors is done on the ground side of the circuit with the ECU.  Sounds to me like they are not getting power at all, is that correct?

Ok, I just checked the FSM.

First, check the FL 30Amp fuse.  If you have power on both sides of the fuse, check to see if your injector resistor is plugged in.  The injector resistor is between the ignition switch and the injectors.  If it is not plugged in, the injectors will get no power.  If you are not getting power on the Black/Yellow wire going to the injector resistor, check your ignition switch.  You should have power at the Black/Red wire comming out of your switch when the key is in the "On" position.  This should cover the Power side of the injector circuit, the injector side is covered by the computer.

Lastly, make sure that all the ground straps are hooked up to your motor.  You should have one going from the head to the firewall,  one from the block to the battery and another from the block to the frame.  If those grounds aren't hooked up, it does some funny stuff to EFI vehicles.

Hope this helps.
