what year ford axles did you use? did they come out of the same truck?  did your driveline line up correctly in the front? :dunno:

I found an 77 F-150 with complete with both axles but not running for $400. Gave my buddy 100 bucks to go pick it up for me since I was stuck on duty at the time... 77 was the last year that the front axles had weld-on wedges for the radius arms. Stay away from the axles with CAST wedges.  :twocents: I was going to use extended Stock ford radius arms, but decided it was going to be too much work. The front D-line is slightly angled, the pinion is maybe 1.5" to the drivers side of the t-case flange but it's no a big deal. thats what U-joints are for.   The rear pinion is bearly off center also but again no biggie. I also kept the gas tank from the Ford, they fit really well between the frame rails. I might use it in the future if I link the rear end and shorten the WB.

The cast housing have thinner axle tubes. and if you want to run links or spring perches, you can't grind off the wedges or weld to the cast. I don't think I said that radius arm are better.  :dunno: Radius arm setups can be made to work. there is a black ex-cab over on TTORA. the guy used the same axle combo and used extended stock Rad. arms. with coil-overs. The truck is pretty sick I got a few ideas from his truck. search Mythica from CO. over on TTORA, he has some good pics too.

I ordered some longer rear shackles from RuffStuff today. I hope they ship fast so I can get them on before this weekend. Last week I got 2 pairs 1.5" tube flanges from ruffstuff that I ordered 2/10/09. They didnt have them instock then So i had him send me 1.75" instead, then I got the 1.5" out of the blue... so that was sweet.

I want to get the bumpstops done this week too. Hopefully my tender springs will get here also so I can get them on. I need to try and do some "tuning" on the front end... I just want to play with the adjustments and see what I can get.  :driving:

Im trying to decide on whether or not I should add a swing out tire rack to the rear bumper. On my last rig I had one with an ice chest rack attached to it, that hung over the bed. It was nice... but I know if I want one on this truck yet.

I have everything to do it except the tube. I have a 1000# rockstomper hinge, latch and 5-lug ruffstuff mounting plate.

But as now I don't have a full-size spare, it's only a 35"

I would probably my high-lift on it again also...

Yeah that pic was from the Rubicon trip you "don't remember" seeing me at all.     But I didnt have the beadlocks very long before i sold it. I never did run them in the snow. Had the half doors for a while tho. That truck worked pretty damn good but underpowered!! I miss how built it was, since I don't have gears, lockers and a crawler right now.

I liked the rack you had on the 2nd gen, though you might want to have the rack hold lighter items then a full ice chest.

ok just making it more clear.  Not sure if i am going to convert to ford axles or if i am going to try and use a toyota axle with a T-Case adapter. :dunno:

Hyena

where did you order the tender springs from?  the kit is $50 a piece from FOA, but that seems like a lot for just a spring and a slider.

i got the tenders from poly performance. They were about the same price. I actually didnt know FOA was selling tenders, until you said that.  But with tax and shipping it was $108 from poly Perf. It is alot no matter you get it, like its just a spring and piece of plastic for the slider.

I didnt have a rack on my 86. My 81 had a swing out on the tube bed I built. The last truck had the only kind of rack, i've built and it held Pat's fat a$$ standing in there! I'm thinking I will build almost the same type swing-out/Rack. I already have all the parts, I just might wait until I get a 37" spare.

I meant to say 3rd gen not 2nd, damn tiny keys.
I was thinking more about the physics of where the weight was located, seemed a bit high.  I know you were limited on storage space after the dovetail, so you didn't have a lot of options.

I got my new shackles from Ruffstuff. Painted them, and put them on. It looks and sits alot better! almost perfectly level. I still havent got the tender springs from Poly. I guess everywhere sold out of them.  :dunno: I checked 3 places... I also need raise the drivers side coil-over to get rid of the "tacoma" lean.

I fixed my CB radio, for this weekend. I was bored and hooked up an air filter on my York also. Still need to do bumpstops, Front forsure. I might wait on the rears.

Here are couple pics of how it sits now.

Finally got my tender springs today. Almost 2 weeks and of course the UPS came like 3-4 hours later today than usual. We got the front and rear bumpstops and the springs on.  I think I will have to expand the contact area for the front bumps. I didnt get any pics, but I will this weekend!  :yesnod:   :driving:

Went up to the snow this weekend. About 2 hours before we were leaving I decided to hook up a couple rock lights in the front. I just drilled and tapped a hole in the shock hoops and mounted them under the fenders. Did a half-a$$ wiring job to save time... I got a few comments about the toggle switch zip-tied to the grill. :eyebrow:

It was a fun trip lots of snow! Dumped like 12-15" Sat night.  Thr truck did pretty good. I had some bad driveline vibs in the rear, which made the crossmember make some more vibs through the poly bushing. And to make it all worse the pass. slider barely hits the rocker panel. Also blew a bead in a muddy ditch...got about couple gallons of water in the tire, but I ended up taking the tire back off and poppiung both beads off and scooping the water out so I could drive faster than 25 on the way home. The York OBA is Cash Money! I blew the first bead back on with the comp. off just on tank pressure, but I used the york alot this weekend. worked great.

Then on the way home CHP got me for no Mudflaps.... :smack:

more random pics...

I also bent the front bumper. Hooked the strap to it and broke the booger welds and bent the tube. Pushed it against a tree and straightend it out. I need to Make a new bumper soon...

Seeing how everyone else had at least one locker, you didn't have any issues at all, other than the blown bead.

Did you get popped for the cracked windshield also?
