I didn't work on this thing at all this weekend. I went to Reno instead... stopped at Cabelas, which is HUGE and pretty sweet! Then went to hotel and ended up winning $450. Which is about all I have left to spent, to get this turd on the road.

:clap:No more excused now, get it finished so we can go do some snow wheeling/camping and a little over consumption of adult beverages.

What were the prices like there at Cabela's, assuming it is the sporting goods Cabela's, and not some new strip club/sleeper house   I need a better tend for bad whether than the one I used last Memorial Day.

Yeah I ordered a P/S cooler and rear shocks today from summit. I have to go to Redding tomorrow morning to take a test. then Im hoping to get some work done. I am going to get the rear driveline ordered tomorrow. Im not sure if I am going to get an adapter for the pinion or have a D-line made with tacoma/9" ends on it. Im not sure if High angle makes an adapter for the 9".

The prices at Cabelas are about the same in the stores as they are online. I got some new snow boots, I was looking at them online also just saved on shipping...

If you are paying then to build you a d-line, I would think it should cost the same.

If you didn't need a long splined d-line, you could frankenstein a Ford and Toyota together and just get it balanced.

I've thought about building my own, but little vibrations drive me crazy... We'll see after I talk to Jess about my options. the thing about it is, when I go to duals I will have a one-piece d-line made. I've already replaced the carrier barring twice in a year.  :shake:

my sched. 40 isnt the roundest but believe it or not there isnt very much vibration i can feel at all. your going to hate the 1 piece if you plan on taking it on the rocks dude. its hangs down WAY to much and is so long (similar to whats in my pants) i had one made and tried the smallest climb and bent it. the shaft was only 2 days old. if you do anything get an after market carrier bearing. ill have to ask callen where his room mate got his at here in town.

Yeah I was thinking of getting a beefier carrier bearing. I had a one-piece on my last rig and only time I bent it was the last waterfall on wrecking ball...

heres a perfect example of how my truck use to look. not my truck but the shaft was that low. check out the low ass driveline. so easy to hit...

If you are going to go w/the 2pc for now, just pick up a Ford d-line, cut and weld it to the Toyota section, and have the new peace balanced.  It should get your through to until you install dual cases and have to either shorten the front section, or build a 1pc.

IIRC, OOP's has an after market carrier bearing set-up, but I think it is a fixed set-up, and would likely vibrate like hell on the highway.  I will see if I can find the link w/pics.

I couldn't find the post that had OOP's set-up in it.  But, when I posed the questions about why everyone said I couldn't go w/a 2pc and duals, OOP's gave me this link to Hendrix Motorsports, they developed their own heavy duty carrier bearing.  I was going to contact them and see what they thought about running it on a street driven rig, but never got around to it.  I haven't had any issues yet w/my 2pc and old carrier bearing on the '91, and I shortened the front section myself.  I had always planned to have it rebuilt and balanced, but it has been almost 2 yrs now and is still waiting to get done.

Isn't the Taco going to be used just as home-trail-home rig w/limited use, or are you going to use it as a DD as well during the fire season?  If you aren't going to be putting 1000's of a miles a year on it, I think the oem carrier bearing should be fine.  I wonder if the Tundra(1st gen) uses a larger carrier, or the same size?

I talked to Jess at high angle this morning. I am just going to get a new pinion flange to bolt up the stock rear d-line. It was cheaper than having a new d-line made. It should be done tomorrow if not this afternoon. He works faster when you tell him your paying cash!

didn't get the d-line adapter today, but I did  get the shocks and P/S cooler from Summit.  I tried to mount the rear shocks using Ruffstuff's axle side mounts. Turns out the nut hits the axle tube before the brackets is against the housing. :shake: Instead of using those mounts (which I paid extra for) I just welded the shock stud that comes with the shock to the top of the housing. But in doing that it moved the bottom eyelet of the shock up about an inch, which I didnt account for when I ordered the shocks. They should be fine but they will be more angled at the top than I planned or wanted...

In the morning I am going to get my gas filled for the welder, and hopfully I will make some progress and not just Fing around with loosely engineered parts :maddest:

I hope finish the rear shocks, mount the hydro ram and re-mount the coil-overs tomorrow...

2000SAS-10

I used those same ruff stuff shock mounts. They suck, I had to use a thin jam nut to make the mounts work. :shake_head: Then I re-did the whole rear frame and moved the shocks to the top of the axle.

Good luck and hurry up and finish this thing

I got the rear shocks mounted up, and the the air tanks mounted under the bed. Also mounted the hydro ram brackets welded on. I spent about 30 minutes on a creeper trying to figure how I'm going to fit the crossmember around the d-line, exhaust and links and make it strong enough. I will get some pics tomorrow.

Snowtoy

Providing there is enough clearance, have you considered making the x-member so that the d-line and exhaust go through it, instead of under it?  Of corse this wont work once you go to a 1pc d-line, but it should work for the 2pc.

the rear d-line isn't an issue. the front is the one I need to clear. But that can be worked around pretty easily. The pass side is where everything is tight. I could go with a front range type x-member but Im not a big fan of those. seems like a lot of torque on everything  between motor mounts and the end of the t-case.

First thing this morning I went to Paradise and picked the pinion flange at High Angle.  It Cost me $110 out the door.    I got the nuts and bolts all tighten on the links.

Then I went to the junkyard to try and find a hub. I found just the cap and they wanted 42 bucks!! So I went to Napa and got a new pair of Warn hubs for $80.
I also ended up ordering a crossmember from Front Range. It wasnt my 1st chioce but it will be the easiest by far!
Got the Hydro ram mounted yesterday, then today I bolted it up and reinstalled the diff cover.

We were able to get some of the little things done today. We got the mastercyclinder all hooked up and the brakes bled. After chasing all the leaks... :ha_ha: I took the stock P/S hose to the hyraulic shop to have a new one made, it should be done monday morning.  Got some 3" exhaust tube and extended to P/S res.  I still need to put the resi. on the pump and put the pump, belts, and fan on.  We got the steering shaft, box, pitman arm and steering wheel aligned.  Coil-overs are put back on and resi's are mounted on the hoops.

Basically I am just waiting on the PS hose and FROR crossmember section to get here and I can finish this  :pokinit:. tomorrow I am going to get the engine bay put back together and fill the fluids.  Hopefully by next weekend it will be drivable and maybe have sliders and a new front bumper.

I'm getting closer!! Im stoked. I got the engine bay pretty much buttoned back up.  I got all the belts back on and the fan. Got the modified PS res back on the pump and the pump put back on the truck. Inake is back on and I mounted the rad. overflow over behind the Pass headlight. I got my limiting straps put on. I am going to order another strap tonight. I had 1 24" strap that I used to set up the tabs on both sides of the axle, but I thought Pats 2 straps were 24" also and I was just going to use his. But his ended being 23"... Thats no biggie, it should be here in a couple days from Poly performance. Also added a little spring to hold the front brakelines away from the tire.

I replaced the rear pinion seal and put the new flange on and the d-line. The rear d-line is on like the last 1.5 - 2" on the slip splines. There might be some vibs from that but I am just going to run it and see what happens... Might have to lenghten it.

I just tried to order the limiit strap online and it's not working. So i guess I will just call tomorrow.  :dunno:

I'll hit you up tom. Kiyul :stopit:

truck is looking great!

Thanks.

I got all the PS stuff hooked up. all the lines are ran, the oil cooler is all done... Got the engine bay and battery all put back in. Checked the horn and it works, So that good. I didnt break the clocking ring (controls power to C/C, horn and airbag) in the wheel doing the steering stuff, i was worried i would have to replace that.

With any luck you and Pat can take it for a test run this Friday.  I know over here they are expecting 6-8' of fresh Sierra cement.  Should make for one hell of a test run.

yeah we are hoping to go up this weekend some time. I just got an email from Front Range saying my crossmember plate wouldn't ship for about 2 weeks!! :yikes: So I cancelled the order and I'm back to making my own. Which sucks because I could have been working on that for the last couple days instead of waiting around.... Oh well  I'm going to go engineer something up and get this  :pokinit: on the road!

kiyul4130

go get a gasket for the t-case and make a template using one of those for a x-member.
