if those bujias were de platino then that is correct. adjusting the gap isn't secessary as it is factory preset.

yes. if you pull it off and things change then the cat is plugged.

you can drill a small hole in the exhaust just ahead of the cat and hook a pressure/vacuum gauge into it. start the truck and rev it up; if the gauge pegs, the cat is plugged.

how pluged would it have to be??? cause wen i took that vid, there was definately exhaust comeing out of there.... hott too... (duh) but i dont get how it could be "pluged" and still flow. is there like a certain presure it takes to kill the motor??? idk... sounds like what mike said...

We need to find out if only 1 plug looks like this, or all of them. You either have a badly leaking injector, a dead cylinder (no compression), or you have an overall ignition problem. I'm guessing it's an overall problem and they all look like this...

really? explain this one to me. that's pretty strange since that's how the exhaust shop in town will test a cat. I beg you to lay your knowledge on me, master.

If you read the whole post it sais "if the pressure guage needle pegs then the cat is plugged, If not it is flowing correctly".

ok i just read the whole thread sober :thud:    I would still clean the plugs  with a spark plug cleaner  are they NGK Spark Plug: Plug No. BKR5EIX  ?  i was thinking about geting a set...

well I see it like this bro  if its the original cat and its a 89 how many miles on it? , time 2 throw on a magniflow .

Now im not a big fan of  throwing parts on and seeing what happends  I would like 2 see you finger this out.  That test here above mention i have never done but sounds like a plan 2 me.

But remember, if there is excessive fuel being dumped into a cat, it is possible to overload the cat and leave deposits across the combs. If these deposits never burn off in the future, then the cat would effectively have less useable surface area to combat pollutants.

You would be just fine removing the cat to see how it runs, if this is a concern. A simple compression check will yield the data we are after here.

Even if the cat was plugged and an exhaust valve had yet to burn or warp, the engine would be running just fine, which it's not..

If the engine and valve train are not the problem, then I would start testing the sensors on the engine that tell the computer what is going on. Somewhere, it is getting a wrong signal, and running the mixture too rich. The FSM has detailed test procedures for them.

Are you bleeding the pressure back off to 0psi between cylinders?
