here is a few pic's from my old job at PG&E with local 1245.  best job i ever had.  too bad it was only an outage and not permanent. :rivers:

pics of the new steam generators going in.  they were built in spain and brought to diablo canyon(Avila beach) on a barge.  it was a refueling and steam generator replacement outage.  lasted almost 7 months.

My buddy Darren is a nuclear engineer there, I hear some crazy storys about haveing to hug cooling pipes to turn off valves and receiving high rads. I think of him as the Homer Simpson of central coast.

Lol!  I remeber doing work like that.  We had to check and close/open valves under the steam generators.  Highest dose I ever got while in there was 32 mREM.  Luckily it was only for about 15 minutes.  We were all harnessed in and climbing around up in the cooling pipes about 30' off the ground.  I got some pic's I took while up on the polar crane.  It sits 140' tall.  We use to have races to see who could climb the ladder to the top the fastest.  good times.  I need to find all my pictures.

I would hate to see what kind of dose the decon crew that hangs the lead shields up on the reactor head pickup.  they are out there for a few hours with fully sealed suits so they don't breath in and radioactive particals and they ended up going in three times. once when the reactor head came off, once when it went back on, and once again to check all the 4' diameter nuts that hold it down because they thought 1 might have been leaking.  very interesting work.  I'm still trying to get on permanent if possible.

I thought those pics looked familiar. My dad was working at Diablo for the most recent outages. He's now down at Songs working on this: http://sciencedude.ocregister.com/2011/07/26/giant-nuclear-parts-stealth-ride-to-utah/133387/

i was at diablo for 2R14, outage management director working in FME.

does your dad drive the movning truck for the generator?  It took them close to 12 hours to drive each steam generator about 1/4th of a mile from the loading docks at the bay to containment.  sure was cool to see something that big movning though. once it was in, the mammoot crew took over.

Nah he's behind the scenes. I've seen a bunch of pics of the rig and it is just too cool. He said the crew moving it can't wait to cross the border. No weekends, 15 mph, and only allowed to travel 4 hrs. a night doesn't make for much progress.  :ha_ha:

Heres one he sent me before the first unit set off.

I've never really posted in the topic but thought I would since I hardly post at all.But any who.

I'm working a fast food place here at Mt.Rainier National Park in Washington State.I have also been doing the seasonal gig for a few summers and love the hell out of it.I don't think I could be doing just another day job in a city well maybe if the money was right but this is a great way to have my own place with roommates at afford price.Might be check out a lodge south of San fran this winter. It is called Big Sur Lodge.I was wondering if any was familiar with that area?

As it turns out it's almost impossible to verify that I have a job at all.  I'm trying to refinance a home loan and the lender wanted verification of employment.  Where I work, no longer has a central phone line that can be verified online (i.e. google) and the online processes that have replaced the phone method are the typical government useless garbage.  One method requires the lender to create an account that include a monthly fee and the other method required me to log into a database that I could never manage.  I found a 13 page "quick guide" to part of the process, that right, 13 PAGES!

I was a little frustrated today, at work, dealing with this stupidity along with another database that wouldn't work and then I got stuck trying to pay people.  I pay people about once a year and this time I couldn't figure out how to do it, probably my problems, and ended up calling the division manager to get-R-done.

By the way, I work in a Navy shipyard.
