how many shims to put on knuckle?

trying to finish my buddy's front end.he had to go to war.he was rebuilding it. he stop on putting knuckle arms back on. I greased up the steering bears. then I'm not to sure what shim size to start with? and not to clear on what and how to get bearing load? he got high steer knuckle arms. is the bearing load 4-5#?

Start with one thick and one thin on top and bottom, preload should be around 12-15lbs.  If it is too loose remove one thin from the top if it is still too loose then remove a thin from the bottom but if you bought the kit from Marlin then it should be the one thin and one thick.   :beer:

It should be about .045" total per side. Usually a .040" and a .005".

if the nuckle preload is off would it make the truck have death wobble? i would assume if they were off the bears would wear out faster.

The knuckle preload is simply to tighten down the bearings on the knuckle like u said....the bearings would probably wear out quicker....if they wore out enough it could effect it......

Wheel bearings have more of an effct on death wobble
