Author Topic: Project Bella. 91 single cab. (Read 18685 times)

So here it is. Just bought a 91 hilux bout 4 months ago, totally stock, besides an exhaust, throttle body spacer, and it came with a K&N box filter.
3 or so weeks ago, i purchased an '85 complete front axle for $225, and got an '83 front axle housing for free! Awesome, then i built some diff armor out of 1/4"diamond plate, got a 3/16" upper axle gusset made up. Just purchased the Marlin Crawler axle ball gussets. Man i need a WHOLE lot of cash for this project. that I just dont have. Other than that i cant really say much about this truck,('cept her name is Bella) cuz theres not really anything to say about it. All I want is some new friends, and a ton of help, cuz well, I've never built a truck up like this before. I have been wanting to do this for a long time seein Im a fabricator and all, I just dont have the necessary tools and knowledge to get the job done the right way. I dont want to hack it up like ive seen before. peace love and chicken grease. Is that it? Thats all i gotta write? Then you guys take over? AAAAHHHAHAHAAHAaaaaa. yea im funny.

Sounds good. Might be a twin to mine lol. Make a photobucket account if you dont wanna post 14 posts. Or you could just go in to the threads that ask for your oppions and write stuff in really fast. So is it sas'd yet or your working on gettin it done?

all i have is the front axle, and the ambition to get it done. I daydream about what its gunna look like all day long, its pretty sad. I just kicked my old GF out of the house, so its gunna be a while before i get the parts i want. (30 splines, high pinion 3rd, 6shooter knuckles, all that jazz.) Any insight of what to/not to use in the beginning stages of this build? I really wanna do it right, so i dont have to do it again. well at least not too soon.

I'd rebuild the front axle for sure that way you don't have to go in to it once its in there. Do a v6 3rd member with gears and a rear locker all while your in there. Make sure you get all the parts you need before you start. I'd go with a marlin sas kit if I was gonna do it all over again. I got the sky one and its ok I just did'nt like the shock hoops I got or my springs or high steer and I ditched all that for marlin stuff and went with all pro springs. If your good at welding and fab then you could build your own hangers and crossmember all that. Don't buy useless stuff for your ifs or wheel it to hard till your ready to do the swap incase something happens. And plan a good week to complete the sas because of little things that pop up and all that.

i built the diff cover with a torch, a vice, and a 4lb. hammer. not too shabby.
the truss was made by my old shop teacher. i am saving $$ for the swap kit,
it comes with the axle rebuild stuff right?(bearings, seals, yadda yadda)
also gunna upgrade what i can before assembly. BIG project, just started, SUPER impaitent. but I can wait.

My kit didnt. I'd look in to marlins or call them. But most don't come with the rebuild stuff. Are you gonna do your gears your self?

i was looking at the TG kit..it comes with a bunch of stuff. all the fancy stuff it looks like.
and ive never done gears before. like I said.. i have NO clue what im doing when it comes to that stuff
I really wanna learn tho.
Never mind the TG stuff. Im prolly jus gunna save the 1600 and go Marlin. Guess I should buy the axle rebuild
kit and get to fixin. should i get my gears and stuff ready before i put the rebuild kit in?

trail gear is complete and utter trash. I wouldnt even wear their sweater inside out if it was -20 in a snow storm. just go the right way and dont cut corners.

My eye's must decieve me.... Is that a pipe from the oil pan to the lower A arm on the front of your truck?

***EDIT*** I think I figured it out! It's to keep the engine from saggin because you had the Tranny and T-Case out prepping for duals and installing the new clutch!
Ingenious idea if you don't intend to keep the IFS as in your case! LOL
