knuckle shims
« on: Nov 29, 2012, 10:14:33 PM »
Is there another way to figure out how many shims are needed without using the SST for setting the knuckle alignment? I have a pull scale to get the knuckle preload right, but want to make sure everything is in alignment. I picked up this front axle used and it was in rough shape. I want to make sure it goes back together properly. Sorry if this may be a newb question, but any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I've always just used the scale and never had an issue.

Good to know. I'm familiar with rebuilding a samurai axle which is pretty much a smaller version, but I never had to play with shims. I just made sure to keep track of what shim and knuckle cap went where. I may just be over thinking things. Thanks for the reply Slolyfe.
