^^^ Why the heck is it like that? ^^^
I haven't really seen a cap look like that before. Doesn't seem like the usual wear.
It seemed like when I put the new cap and rotor on, it ran good for like... 45 seconds? But, something is still not right. I don't think that the spark plugs are faulty, but then again, I didn't check the gap or nothing. The wires are OK, so that means that there isn't much left to replace. Except the igniter/voltage regulator or whatever on top of the coil.
The truck will start, and then almost immediately it just begins to struggle to idle. Misfiring and shaking. It's got real choppy acceleration, (and deceleration) too.

If someone can interpret what the problem is, then please let me know. Kinda holdin' me back from doing anything else yet. And I wanna go to the snow!!

if the cap was that bad start with a full tuneup. Have you checked for codes?

I am almost positive the wires are on correct. I haven't checked though. Diagnostics show that the motor thinks it's running at "normal conditions".
However, I am beginning to believe this problem is a little more serious than faulty ignition. It seems like the more I run my motor, the more it leaks. I thought it was just a valve cover gasket before, but it's starting to seem like it's my head gasket.  :shake_head:
I'm gonna run a compression test today, and check the gap on my plugs. If everything is OK, I am going to set the timing again, and check the idle speed. Once that is done, I'll take off the valve cover and check the valve lash, and get a new gasket. Hopefully after all that she'll feel better.
I hope I don't have to tear that thing apart, and do rings or a head gasket.

Well, I checked the spark plug gap and compression today. Everything seems to be normal. Compression was around 150~160 which is low, but not below minimum. And they were all pretty much the same. All the spark plug gaps were OK.
I put everything back together, and was attempting to show a buddy how bad it ran, and to my chagrin it started to smooth out as I let it idle. It still has a little struggle, but I still need to recheck my timing and idle speed. Maybe it just has rough cold starts.  :dunno:
I drove it around and everything seemed a lot smoother than it has been. Hopefully the MSD coil isn't just overpowering everything and masking the problem. But I am pretty sure that I don't need rings or a head gasket right now. Tomorrow I'm gonna try and get the timing, idle speed, and valve clearance correct. Hopefully all this will help.

I also ordered up a dual transfer case cross member from Sky's, that should be here sometime.

808 tells me I type too much information. So I'll keep it simple, I know pictures would be better.

Timed the truck today, runs pretty much the same. All plugs seem to be getting the correct spark now.
Still a little rough, I'm hoping correcting the valve clearance will do it. Could rough idle be related to the timing chain in any way?

I like that paint scheme you got going on a lot! Did you use bed liner on the bottom half?
I think if I was to paint mine, I would go a little more orange, a little less red. Basically the same color where the sun is shining on in that second pic.

Thanks man.

Wampum, the orange is a candy color so in the sunlight it really pops. The pic's are kind of deceiving, in person the color isn't red at all.

Some fender trimming might be in order for the rear especially. But I really want to get a 4WD bed. 1st or 2nd gen. If anyone is getting rid of one let me know.

is it roll on or spray on?

They say that you can do either, it comes in a spray kit though and I sprayed it. Worked really good. I did the area behind the rear seat, and also the bed rails. It hasn't chipped or faded at all.
