Well, I know everyone's seen all this nonsense before, but I got my knuckles off today. Turns out I didn't notice the cone washers on top. Big Bro saved me a lot of struggle pointing those out. Still can't get one of the dang oil seals out from inside the axle though. Might have to go snag a slide hammer or something. Steering is still in the way, but I'll get that taken care of once I yank the old box off. Here's some 'after' pics.

Still to do (for sure):
-Remove oil seal
-Remove steering box
-Clean up/paint? axle and knuckles
-Put everything back together with new seals/bearings/gaskets
-Mount IFS box

And if I end up putting on those 4" springs, I gotta take off the shocks, old springs, and old brake lines, and install the new springs, steel-braided extended brake lines, and get some different shocks. And, I'll probably swap out my rear axle for the V6 rear and swap in that FJ80 brake master, too. I'd like to get everything done in one fell swoop, but that may or may not happen. Still gotta do something about my battery cables to get my truck to run right, too. JEEZ!:shake_head: a lot of stuff to do by myself. Not to mention there's some other stuff I gotta deal with along the way, like my cracked frame, and my rounded off brake line fittings. Blah Blah Blah. I'll have some updates on Monday hopefully.

When are you gonna put it back together?
I wanna clean everything up a little bit first. I should have it all put back together by the time I get my vented rotors and high steer from All-Pro. Frickin' taking days for them to get that to me though. I was hoping $50 bucks they charged for shipping would get it here a little quicker.  :maddest:

Kev did you get any wheel spacers?
no wheel spacers, i'd like to get sky's widening kit down the road. I've already got the IFS wheel hubs. plus, It's down to $200 now. Not too bad. That, and eventually I'll get some rims with more offset than I have.
by the way: congrats on 2,000 posts ya nerd.  :bananapc:

dude this is the best idea ever. straight axles are so GAY. everyone should convert to ifs. i think i am going back.

oh and so far this build sucks
so is it the best idea? or does this build suck? either way I think we can all agree that IFS > Solid Axle by far.
but functionality aside, solid axles look so much sicker huh bro

That  :censored: pitman arm is frozen on there real good. Tried for like an hour today to get it off.  :wall: But except for that, the old steering box is ready to get yanked out of there. Here's a 'before' pic. Hopefully I'll have an 'after' pic soon.

yeah, except it is still connected to all my steering. and it has to come out of the engine bay, it wont fit out the other way. plus I couldn't get the fitting off at the box, so its got a long hard line still connected to it. real pain in the rear. and no, i don't know how to disconnect it from my steering except for the pitman arm (or a torch, which i might resort to)

I think so, it will be cheaper in the long run.

Good News: Got the old steering box out, & I got the oil seal out. And most of my parts are now here so I can start putting stuff back together.  :woohoo: Also, I think I narrowed down my shudder problem to being my motor mounts. I got a good look at them today when I was pulling that box out, and they look broken for sure. Anyway, maybe by this weekend I can have a rolling truck again.  :crossed:

today i ordered the rear spring from allpro with the hangers, dang shipping was 82 bucks. and it wont be here till the end of next week.
but i realized i cant use my ubolts cause they are huge for those blocks  and if i get the flip kit im gonna have to get hte shock mounts too. so now i guess im just going to wait a while now until i can get it all ordered up. plus i need new shackels cause im not gonna use those 10 inchers so i figured you could run those and then you will sit pretty level too if you use my blocks and the front springs it will be like exactly how my truck was

Here's some pictures of my cracked frame :shake_head: . Notice the ugly welds around the shock tower.

Also, I pulled off my old springs. Once I get the spring spacer pad for the driver's side from a buddy, I'm gonna put on the 4" Marlin springs  . With the new springs, I am going to get some shock hoops, shocks, and eventually some longer shackles. I like Marlin's set up because I just want to be able to flex with some 37's. He runs 12" Bilsteins and 2" longer shackle? (Correct me if I am wrong). So I think I am going to do the same things.

Anyway, I am still waiting on my high steer arms and rod ends from All-Pro  :( . Once I get that, I can put my axles back together with the new stuff. Then I gotta get that IFS box mounted still. That may or may not take some time considering I don't have a welder, so I am going to have to find one along with an operator (I ain't that good yet). Then, I am going to torch off the old shock towers, Fix/ plate my frame, get the shock towers welded on, yada yada yada... Seems like I have the same to-do list all the time, but slowly I'm gettin' there.  :)

Finally, everything is here that I need to get my truck rolling again. Except a welder  :-\ But I got most of my knuckles put back together with the new hysteer arms, and trunnion bearings, and  :turtle: H.D. inner axle seals. I forgot to take pictures tonight :smack: But I'll get some up before I head down to school tomorrow. Night gang

Is it really necessary to check the knuckle preload or whatever? I'll do it if it is a good idea, but if it doesn't matter... I ain't gonna bother.
