I went to Maui and saw tons of these trucks...  They all had like 8" lifts and 31xWide SX Swampers on really wide rims and Fox bling shocks.  I wouldn't build that way but for some reason I like their unique regional island style...  I've been trying to figure out how to emulate their style a little bit on my '94, maybe a clean paint job and some nicer wheels... Maui Toyota license plate frames or a surf board... The big lift and wide tires just don't work with the Rocky Mountain way.  Oh well.

As far as safety, I never saw a speed limit over 45 mph when I was on Maui so I really don't think it's a big deal. Maybe they don't drive so bad anyway. My truck drives pretty damned good but I'm sure most people around here would expect it to drive like crap.

We should all work out a wheeling exchange with these guys so they can take us island wheelin' when we go over there and we can trade them for a wheeling trip in the big snow or the rocks on the mainland!  That would be cool!

they love boggers over there :gap:

I never really thought about it when I was over there, but I did notice the phenomenon... I thought they just looked like pavement pounders.. still cool though.. at least they are into yota's and not Fords ;)

frombigisland

its pretty nuts in hawaii, everyone drives toyotas! and i mean EVERYONE. back home on the big island all you see are lifted toyotas.  alot of them have the wide tires but we still do off road a lot.  and hawaii has a lot of rocks! just google a picture of the big island and you will see for your self.  if you surf or fish you pretty much need a truck.  its more like a life style than a hobby.  :driving:
here is my daily driven sas 88 toyota! and yes i do take it off road almost every other day!!

Looks good.. you all seem to have boggers as well!

THK Matt

yeah we love boggers out here, we like the real knoby(sp) tires like boggers, sx, ltbʻs. we have a lot of mud here too.

as far as the knuckle and wheel bearings we pretty much jus deal with it! haha

i sold those rim and tires and am running the stocks so i can get my safety check but i am planning on getting some 15x10ʻs so i dont get any more tickets.

solidmaui78

Any guy who takes his woman wheeling enjoys her. A woman who is owned is left at home to cook, clean, and keep beer cold. So if this offends you you should stop looking and go have some tacos.    :rofl2: And a beer. If your old enough.   :beerchug:

Went to Maui last month and definately noticed the difference in build trend while over there... the black one seemed quite normal by comparison!

Eh! You know it braddah! We stayed right across from Kamaole Beach Park III. We saw honu's just about every morning. Best beach hands down was Kalepolepo at sunset. What town are you from?

hikine

we not only have huge sick trucks down here but we also have a lot of trail rigs to just like u guys in the mainland. and the guys who have huge beast runnin down the road usually are the ones also with trail rigs. besides the style of trucks we have here in hawaii cant be found anywhere else on this planet, there straight up, straight front, high, wide and most of all (sky is da limit).
