interesting problem-22re
« on: Jul 15, 2008, 04:09:32 PM »
ok, this issue only occures after its "warm"

it may be a few problems causing thes issues, but lets see what we get from marlin buddies.

yes i searched, nothing exactly like this came up/

so anyway, low speeds, 1st gear -sometimes 2nd, it will cut out, and back on, kinda surging-annoying as hell.

2nd symptom-while cruising at any speed, if i dont keep it above like 1500 rpm, it will stop accelerating and the motor will pull down-kinda like its running out of gas-and when i re-apply the gas pedal, it will not come back on smooth-it lunges back into rpm, jerks the truck. it mainly does all this when shifting through gears from a redlight. so nothing is smooth, when i go to re apply gas after shifting it jerks into its rpm range rather then smoothly comeing on.

all filters and plugs ect where replaced 100 miles ago-with the new head. this was not a pre existing problem

and accordidng to th FSM, the vacuum lines are correct

MAF or TPS

friend of mine had an issue very similar, sometimes it was fine, sometimes it wasnt.... finally he took it to a toyota guy, and the guy said somehow some wires were pinched with the MAF, he cut them and soldered them back together... no more problem

was it possible some harness is not connected or loose, or wires damaged when doing your swap?

i just swapped the mas-with a known good mas-problem still there. and i dont think that the wires for the mas could have been hurt. i removed the harness while working on it. tps is a possibility, but it is a new one, well new in 2006-it may be out of adjustment thought, i dunno

we swapped his maf for a good one too...... the funny thing about it being the wires, was he hadnt done any work on his truck in a long time.... other than welding on some knuckle ball gussets......

sure enough, the guy found it, resoldered the wires together, and all was better again....

I would check the setting on the TPS, Intake air temp sensor would have to be in the air intake like internal to the MAF.

The TPS is on the side of the throttle body.  The intake air temp sensor is on the inside of the air flow meter.

What is the # of the code you are getting?

I would check the resistance of the temp sensor at the plug of the air flow meter.  If it's a little out of spec, I wouln't worry about it, but if either one of those wires are shorted to ground or if there is an open circuit between the computer and the sensor, it's an easy fix.  If the air flow sensor has an open circuit, it needs a new air flow meter.
