OK, so I have this scraping noise going on, finally figures out that it is the gas tank skid rubbing on the driveshaft.  I have so much body roll that when I turn left the two come into contact.  So I beat the skid plate back against the gas tank and it is still rubbing.  Any thoughts on gas tank moveage, reducing body roll.  Anybody run into this before?   :hammerhead:

Mine driveshaft hit my gas tank for awhile.  But it dented in so far it doesn't hit it anymore.  I would say live with it.

It'll cost about $12 to move your gastank.  you'll need 2 sticks of 3/8" steel line and a couple fittings to finish it off.  Look at $300 torwards page 11 for pics of where and how I moved/mounted my tank. Its one of the best mods Ive done so far. ;)

i know exactly what the problem is. I just had the same problem for months and i couldnt figuer it out. Take your springs off and ill bet you $500 that your spring perch centering holes arent round anymore(and i bet its your passanger side to). My center holes were ripped all to hell from poor u-bolts that loosened off . All i did was get two peaces of flat bar and drilled the center holes out and welded them to the top of your spring perches.

Good luck and hope thats your problem

You can mail the check to CT whenever you are ready.  I hade the axle out of the truck last weekend, the holes are fine, I am also running brand new u-bolt flip kits, they aren't going anywhere.  Problem is that the body roll is enourmous.  I really don't think it should be driven on the highway.  The welded rear is really the root cause, as the inside tire scrubs along the shorter radius of the turn it catches and allows the drivetrain to torque the body over.   :(

So just pry against the tank a bit and bend it in slightly to provide more room? Fix the body roll problem the next time you are working on your suspension?

How are the bushings in your hangers and shackles? Youve got solid body mounts, so its gotta be your suspension bushings. What is your shock angle like in the back? Try to keep the shocks as perpendicular as possible to the axle to prevent as much body roll as possible..

I haven't been able to get it out of the neighborhood...
BM - All my bushings are brand spanking new.  The shocks are angled in the rear - /\, but they are in the only place I could put them.  I guess it is time to either learn to deal with it, or fab a sway bar setup...hmmm.  Any suggestions, searching here and pirate didn't really pull anything useable.

An IFS swaybar would be pretty simple to adapt.  Ive thought about doing that myself but once I stood my shocks up more the body roll has dominished a bit so Im fine now.

Yeah, I am gonna look into that, my bigger issue is not the body rol, but the gas tank interference...WT I have a runner, I can't move the tank like you did.  I need another option...think there are any dangers in dropping the d-shaft and taking a 4-pounder to the skid and tank...other than losing a little fuel capacity?

Oh yea I forgot you had a runner...  You shold be fine beating the tank back a bit.  Dont get crazy and dont make one dent too big, spread the pounding out a bit.  Maybe use a piece of pipe as a dolly of sorts to spread the dent out in the correct area.

WERD, I have some nice steel inserts for a shop press mounted break.  they make for good dent-spreader-outers.   :disturbed:
