We have a bicycle shop up the road from our house, apparently they have a team cause they are constantly riding in packs around our neighborhood.
I have nothing against cyclists per se but it really ticks me off when they take up the entire road riding 4 abreast, and not letting cars pass.
I call them the helmeted spartans

Funny thing is, I was going to work one day a couple weeks ago and in the oncoming traffic lane was, you guessed it, the pack of helmeted spartans blocking traffic. I was so pissed I wanted to careen into them just for GP, and they weren't even in my lane.
Later that day I got an email with this story in it! LOL

I told a friend, a rider, about the helmeted spartans ticking me off, and he said "well I can get my bicycle up to 25 mph in just a couple pedal rotations" I said 'well I can get my car up to 35 by the time you are just starting to pedal so get the fing out of the way"

I was following a guy the other day, he wasn't even in the bike lane, but riding about 2 feet into the lane from the line.   :tantrum:  The area I was in is full of narrow streets, with decent traffic, so in my f250, I couldn't pass him w/o clipping him with the mirror (thought about that  :disturbed: )  So we're going along, traffic is stacking up behind me, and people are getting pissed.  Suddenly, a car backing out of a driveway blocks his path, so he swerves into mine (without looking) :yikes:  and I laid on my horn.  He had plenty of room, but it still scared the :pokinit: out of me.  he glanced back, flips me off, and turns around just in time to hit the curb, slide forward of the seat, and crotch himself quite nicely on the crossbar

Drove by, him doubled over in pain, me doubled over in laughter.  If they respect the rules of the road, I've got no problem with cyclists.  Its just the idiots that think they own the road that piss me off.

While everyone may have varying opinions, please refrain from comments like "They all need to be run over" (Not to mention any names).  Some people make a living riding bikes, and it's actually pretty good exercise.  ALSO, I know we have some riders on this board and comments like that are offensive.

Share your opinions, but don't bash the biker community.  Yes, they need to share the road but so do motorists.

you didnt have to mention my name, you directly quoted what i said right after i said it... so whatever....  ::)

there are a lot of people that ride responsibly and within the scope of the law, and that is fine, then there are the jerks that do not and impede traffic progression...

The sad reality is that they have the legal right to be in any lane. Just about a week ago this guy on a bike is in the turn lane at an intersection, he was off to the right side and when the turn signal turned green he started his turn with the vehicles. I was behind another car turning and as we started our turns he cut right in front of the car in front of me, he came within inches of becoming traction for the car in front and I just about ran them all over. I swerved to the right and he spun his bike to avoid the 1st car, guess what he was staring at after he spun out of the way? My front bumper, I think he stained his pants.

to a point, when turning yes, but if there is a bike lane, they are not allowed to be in traffic lanes and also they are supposed to be towards the edge a certain amount if there isnt a bike line.... there are a lot of bikers that plain dont care, and think they are a car.... there are also quite a few people on bikes riding afterhours with no lights or reflectors at all.... that is plain irresponsible

it's the professional racing cyclist I find that are the worst, that they they have every right to be riding in front of you and to hell with how much they are holding up traffic. Especially when they get that pack mentatility.

There is a car in our parking garage here at work that has a bumper sticker that says "3' it's the law" with a arrow pointing to the side of a cyclist. I assume indicating we have to give them 3' leeway.
I want to add a bumper sticker that says 'SINGLE FILE, IT'S THE LAW' (I don't know if it is or not but...)

One day I was getting ready to go to the store. Just as I was walking out of the house a whole pack of those helmeted spartans come around the corner and I'm thinking "Fing great! Now I'm going to be stuck behind them" .... I proceed down the road and as I turn the corner there is the whole pack of them spread out in the road and on lawns. It seems someone must have gone down in front and taken the rest of them with him. I about died laughing and was able to take a detour.

(BTW - helmeted spartans = male nether region - and this only applies to the ones that believe they should own the road and all cars should be left to rust)

Ok, it helps to know the laws doesn't it  :gap:  We (cyclists, and no I don't ride some gay road bike) have every right to ride on the road IF, and ONLY if, we can keep up with traffic.  If not we are to yeild to traffic.

When I first moved to redding I rode my bmx or mountain bike on about a 15 mile loop through town for exercise all the time.  Sadly, the people who design bicycle lanes seem to be sadists and don't understand the idea of a margin of safety, so I usually would ride on the sidewalks.  Never got pulled over once.  If somebody was walking on the sidewalk I'd hop onto the street, then hop back up after passing them.

If there's one group of bikers who've earned a reputation for being cocky, erogant and selfish, it's road bikers.  They do take their rights well past the extreme when it comes to occupying a lane and all too often won't allow motorists or even motorcycles by!  I'm a member of the bay area riders forum (barf) and have seen tons of accounts from riders of cyclists either blocking lanes or trying to screw with motorists in some way, then acting as if it were their own fault and being total pricks.

I'm not saying they need to be run over, but a lot of them do build up some bad, bad karma!

Don't have many issues with bicyclists in my little backwoods neck-o-the-woods, but there is one potential problem I have encountered a few times.

We are surrounded by curving two-lane mountain roads, often with little or no shoulder, and the occasional guardrail just off the fog line.  Most definitely not bicycle friendly, but a few idiots riders have to try anyway...

The problem occurs when you are driving a safe, legal speed and you find a bicyclist as you are in mid-corner.  He is on the pavement (which means he is in your lane), and he may not have an escape route.  Doesn't much matter, because he'll probably hold his line anyway ("I have as much right to the road as you do" mentality).

Chances are I'm in my work truck, which is awfully close to the maximum legal 8 foot width.  Hopefully I can swerve to avoid running over this genius.  Now if I overtake him at the same time I meet another truck (not too much of a stretch), something has to give, and all parties involved have milliseconds to react.

If I can swerve in time, I might take the other truck head-on and die as a reward for my noble intentions.  Maybe I survive but the other driver is killed because I crossed the center line to avoid killing the bicyclist.  After I recuperate, I go to prison.

Or maybe I can't react in time and simply run over the idiot, almost surely killing him.

It is a perfect storm that is completely within the realm of possibility.  I hope it never happens, to me or to anyone else.  There are roads that bicycles should simply not be allowed on, period.  Common sense should count for something.
My goal in life is to be as a good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

If you don't learn something every day, you're not paying attention.

This is going to get your panties in a wad here, but If they (all of them) don't look out for them selves, why the hell should anybody else.
I'm sorry to single you out, but you stepped in it. If you know any of these morons, tell them they better be watching their backs. I for one think the more of them you take out the better. If they had any smarts they would not go out dressed like a gay day parade.

As for smarts, anyone that has a high school education will know that any car, truck, SUV or commercial vehicle has a distinct advantage against any soft fleshy brainless fool on a "BICYCLE". No amount of chrome alloy tubing or banana shaped helmets can prevent you from being ground into the pavement by  8000 lb work truck, So best thing you can do is GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY.

I recently had an incident with one of these tights wearing mounties that thought he could keep me from getting past him by hanging out in my lane. He was nearly knocked off his steed by the passenger mirror and thought it wise to beat on my window at the stop light. Words from his mouth " You could have killed me" (colorful words removed) Words from my mouth "SO, maybe you should not be out in the middle of the road, care to try again, maybe I won't miss next time".

Now before you think I hate everybody on bicycles and I'm sure you think that already, let me just say if you respect yourself and the rules of the road and the laws of physics and choose to observe them for your own safety and don't make it a point to interfere with a working mans right to use a road that was designed for automotive use, you have my respect and I will do everything I can to avoid you. But I will not wait behind any A hole that thinks he is entitled to stop or disrupt the flow of traffic on his portable exercycle.

Here is another law of nature we seem to be avoiding these days, The law of natural selection.
