depends on quality, size, and finish.... some people can stretch 1 can for a whole truck, but it looks like crap

Find them in the 6 or 12 pack cases and buy 12 that way you don't have to skimp and try to stretch it out.  If you are like me you will end up making mistakes, getting mad at the truck and repainting panels three times then wet sanding and buffing and polishing and wet sanding some more...but I am insane.

No access to a compressor?  It's cheap to buy just enough paint to cover a truck and will be easier to blend.

:dunno: depends on the paint.

I used those camo colors that Rustoleum( I think) makes, and It was 6 cans for my 91 xcab.  Covered really well, and lasted a long time.

Also used the .99 paint from walmart, had to use 10 cans or so of that crap, and it fades out quick, and doesn't cover near as well.

Did you just use the walmart clear spray paint? I need to paint the 90 if I ever get it done, and I already picked out the walmart paint color I wanted to use.

Personally I wasn't ever impressed with the walmart clear coat. Not really impressed with the .98 paint in general, come to think of it.  I don't know how long you want your truck to look good, but the black that I've used usually fades out to a grey over the summer.

Fenders and hood were done last year (as were the half doors, but they sat inside for 9 months.)
Bed was done the year before.

hmm... well thats not cool. Maybe I will paint the new truck with some rustolium like I use to paint everything else I have painted. I just found a really close match to my factory paint with some of that walmart spray paint, and figured that if it works for Glen, why wouldn't it work for me? Maybe I will go a different route and paint it a different color all together using the rustolium.

1.5 cans of black and 2.5 cans of green.  One coat, no clear, no wax.

I would use spray can laquer.  you can usually find it in Black, White,  Silver, And Clear at anyplace that sells spraypaint.  Other colors available at auto parts stores. It will hold up a lot better because it essentially takes years to dry all they way so it wont crack and chip like enamel.  I sprayed my frame and SAS parts with Black Laquer 8 years ago and it is still holding up really well and I have high pressure sprayed it dozens of times.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

I did 2 coats on the fenders and hood, 1 coat on the cab, 5 cans total. I would say 7 cans to do it right.

How much is it per can, like $5?  I got a quart of hot rod black, reducer and supplies for just over $30, and could probably do a single coat on a whole truck with just a little more.

I will say though, best spray paint I've used is dupli color, hands down.  Seems to be the best at smoothing out and giving a good shine, not to mention it helps when you're going back over a previously painted section, but you can't let much time lapse between passes at all.

I second the laquer approach.  That's how they painted cars in the 50s and 60s and the paint held up very well.  But you'll need 2-3 coats at least.
