That your FIRST thread be in the new member section?  I seem to remember reading that when I first joined the site, but in the last couple months it seems like atleast 5 people join a week and make their first post in the classifieds.

Maybe I'm alone in thinking they should make an effort to atleast appear to be a contributing member BEFORE trying to hock their wares, but I don't think I'm the only one  :dunno:

I thought you had to post X number of times before you could start a new topic in the classifieds?  :dunno:

I'd pm mike, but I have to think he has his reasons for allowing people to post wherever they want when they join.  Maybe I should just stop being the main one who asks/tells them to introduce themselves first, but it just kinda gets under my skin.  I've joined boards with the partial intent to sell parts, but I've always introduced myself and made that fact known.

Nah, you're doing a good job :hahaha:  I'd do it too, but I usually don't go to the sale section.  Nothing that I need that I want to buy right now, and if I look, I get antsy, and I spend money that I shouldn't.  :gap:

I really coulda sworn that this was addressed before, kinda like you can't post pics until you post a certain # of times.  :dunno:

I almost think some people say something to them first in hopes that I don't  :haha:

We'll see if mike sees this tomorrow and cares to comment.

The way I look at it someone could introduce themselves and still rip someone off.  There's been instances of paying venders on other boards ripping customers off.

A simple introduction does not alleviate ones responsibility as a buyer to ask questions, get phone number, get pictures, inquire about shipping, guarantees, insurance etc to feel more secure in a transaction.

My problem with the classifieds is old ads that are bumped by people who still think an item listed 3 years ago is for sale. The classifieds sections need a major house cleaning along with the stolen vehicle section.

True, but the more someone is on here, the more you get to know them.  It benefits both the buyer and seller.  I would be reluctant to buy from someone I don't even know, whereas with kneedownnate, I'd buy from him in a heart beat, because I've seen him on here enough, and have gotten to know him (as well as you can for never meeting the person :gap: )

Its also kind of a give and take.  If you justh op on to post an ad, and then dissapear, you've brought nothing to the table.  you post in tech, introduce yourself, even post in chitchat, you build friendships, get new wheeing buddies, others get a wheeling buddy, you give and gain information, and a lot more people benefit.  To me its an abuse of the service Marlincrawler provides if you treat his website and his forum as nothing more than a classifieds as.  Mabye its just me though :dunno:

should just add another sticky to the top of the classifieds that has post here if you are new first, not post your junk for sale when no one knows you

Mike changed the requirement for selling items, they don't need a minimum of posts and while you do still need a minimum to post a picture you can link one at any time.
I think people think because they are a regular on another board, like pirate and/or have been watching the marlin board for a while before signing up they don't feel like they are newbs. I agree they should be introducing themselves first though.
I'll give Mike a heads-up about this thread and see what he has to say.

Glen there may be some boards u dont do but the for sale rig gallery and all the ones im in still get a good amount of my attention.

I dont know what I am doing "wrong"

Partially the only reason I even get on here is to check out the boards. The reason I do not delete the posts that are old is that they dont say to but i guess I will since people are complaining.

Now that I think about it, I was not prompted to make my first post in the noob area. In fact, I had no idea we had a noob area until I had around 20 posts, and I did not post in it until I had 40 some posts. I think it would be a good idea to have them check in first.

:therethere:  I don't think you're doing anything wrong.  I can see the dilemma, you don't want to delete a thread when someone is still selling something, but it sure is a PITA when some new guy asks if something is for sale, and pulls the thread back from when it died in oh, say 2004.  :hahaha:

Do you know if there is a way that the section can be set so the threads are automatically deleted if they are inactive for say, 90 days, 6 mos. whatever?  :dunno:  That way it could automatically weed out the stuff that is either gone and the seller forgot to delete the thread, or the seller no longer frequents the board.

Do I know... No.....

Does Bigmike or Cruzilla know.. Possibly. I dont know. I was going to bring it up in the moderator forum but since everyone is complaining I will anyway and just see that even though it may not say please delete or something along those lines I will just delete.

Personally when I see something thats 3 years old or older that says stuff for sale blah blah and some ididot posts in 2008 like yah i want to delete it but since I am not the author of the thread and since it does not say please delete it gets me in a bind like, what do i do and personally my choice is not delete it since it doesnt say to and I am not the author. So for everone that thinks I am "not doing my job" you really gotta think that what im doing may be more if the right thing. Even if the person is not an active member the part/parts may not be sold so it seriously is like, what do i do.
