Difficulty shifting 4wd to 2wd with twin stick?

Has anyone else had a problem with their twin stick not wanting to shift out of 4wd? I have a detroit in front and it seems like I have to really apply some pressure to the damn thing to get it out of 4wd, as if something is binding up?

Thoughts?

Im sure any truck with a locker up front will have trouble shifting out of 4WD. Marlin's truck is a real pain in the rear. Sometimes his front ARB won't disengage. You have to rock the truck back and forth a couple of times and it wont steer at all. In that condition, his truck is impossible to disengage 4WD...

I find rollin in second gear that it likes to slide right back into 2WD and I have an ARB up front

Guys is this problem only with a manual tranny?

Before i put my lock right in i had a problem shifting it into 2wd about half the time.  Then i put my lock right in and i had a problem almost every time.  But now that i took it out it only happens sometimes.  My firends truck pops out of 4wd then it is a pain to get it back in, he has to drive it around a little before it will pop back in. Its only happened a couple times.  He has a 4.7 gear.

my truck is stock and on occasion have a hell of a time gettign it back into 2wd. theres a lot of rocking involved

Thats never happend with LilSwamper...but again b4 me as the owner I dont think it was shifted into 4WD a lot  :headscratch:

swamper yours is a auto right? i had an 89 toy pickup with an auto in it. and since autos have the different t-case i never had a problem. to put in 4wd u have to push down the button right? just like with the tranny itself? did that makes sense :headscratch:

Yes...kinda   :headscratch: Like push the top button to shift it from 2wd to 4wd...yes mine has that...why do ya think the V6 wont do that? :dunno:

yeah thats what im talking about. i wish i knew. all i know is in my 89 not once did i have a problem shifting back into 2wd. either did my cousin with a truck exactly like yours

One of the problems with the gear driven t-case is due to the 2 degree female teeth on the shift hub, and the mating 2 degree male teeth on the side of the matching gear. This helps to keep the hub enguaged, but can also be the cause of not wanting to move out of gear.

As long as there is torque in the drivetrain, you will always have problems getting the t-case to shift.
