Actually I just touched the tip of the iceberg, beings that I was a tow driver on and off since I was 18 and then helped manage an O.P.G. for 22 years until 2006, operating a tow business is not as cut and dry as it seems on the outside. Knowing my brother it won't be too long before we get back into it once we get things going. For most automotive businesses a tow truck is a necessary evil, I've worked for several companies that the only reason they even had trucks was to bring in business. In most cases they don't make money they loose it but the amount of business brought in to the shop countered the loss. Plus you can show it as a loss on your taxes.

that a way ive never thought about it man so thanks for opening my eyes, however this guy charged me 700 bones because the cops made him come out on a dirt road to get it... i had no choice but to pay him.. I salute the bird to him every time i see him. i told people about what he did in my little town and now hes got no calls.. also the police officer told me i had to call him cause he was the only tow place open that night.. well shes no up :pokinit: creek without a paddle.. i guess they can call the rotation driver as you said but they cant specify a name of a company.. but you really did open my eyes. now i feel like one of the people that says they hate cops but when someone is giving them trouble there on the phone to 911 askin for help.

Update: You may have noticed we didn't open on the 1st as planned, unfortunatly the team from Valvoline didn't get the equipment in to redo the lube bays. Yesterday they showed up at 7:00a and worked through the day setting everything up and then the truck rolled in with all of my product. :woohoo: Man it was a lot of stuff I was doing inventory for ever! :thud: So now except for the grease guns everything is new and working, the only thing that went bad was when he tried to thread the main hose for the grease guns he stripped it out. :tantrum: Good thing we changed the open date to the 15th. The carwash is all set up and ready to go so it won't be long before we get going.

We are planning a soft opening for the carwash on Monday just for the day to make sure everything is right we are not charging for the wash so if you are in the area stop by and get a free wash! I don't know what time we are going to do it but if you show up we'll fire that monster up.

The shop looks awesome doesn't look anything like it did when we started, we've been very busy.

So what do you think about the new look? It's still not quite done yet, as you can see we are still painting, there are no signs yet except for the banners.

Come by tomorrow and get your car washed!!!

It has been really cool getting this all together, but it is also very taxing on you. The actual movement has had a nice flow to it but with moving again to Palm Springs and Campfire Girls mom passing away right in the middle of it all I am just beat. I did take it easy this weekend, only went in yesterday to open up so the guys could continue painting and wasn't going to go in at all today but as I went by the shop this afternoon some assholes had tagged our bobtail and one of the rollup doors. :tantrum: It just figures don't it? I wish they would have tagged where we had just painted it would have been easier to cover up. Oh well we'll take care of it, fortunatly once you open the doors you can't see it.

Painting is finished, the carwash is ready, and Valvoline stopped by today to put the final touches on the lube bays. Except for signs and of course our business licenses and permits to be wrapped up we are ready to go!!! I spent this afternoon at a local sign co. to get an estimate on our signs, they will be coming out tomorrow to see what needs to be done.

We do have a couple employees already and they were taking care of painting and since they were done today I decided to show them the proper way to do a complete drive-train flush and fill. Econowheeler was enlisted for this job, I had them change every fluid in the beast from the brake fluid to the diffs just to see how things worked. Everything went smooth and easy except that the gearoil guns nozzle needs to be flex hose instead of hard tube. I couldn't get to the trans fill hole, I had to get a piece of hose and feed it up and in. It popped out a couple times and spit gearoil all over so guess what I smell like? Forgot how much I missed wearing gearoil as Cologne.

Man that system Valvoline has is sweet, except for the gearoil snafu it was a clean operation from beginning to end.  I can't wait to really use this stuff.
 :crazyjumpy:

We are still looking for a warehouse for tires, we have everything else ready on that end too, all the machines are here and hooked up.

OPEN!!

Soft opening as of May 01, 2008 I gave anyone that came in a free oil change and carwash! :yikes:

I didn't tell anyone that came in until it was time to pay, did about 20 oil changes and around 100 carwashes. :thud:

That was without any advertising at all, we are setting up for a Grand Opening next weekend with all the bells and whistles.

RS, Great job, You will do well. I have owned my own business sense 1984. My best advise is to try and own the land, buy your tools with your profit, and greet your customers with a genuine smile. It would be OK to stock 35" MT/R as well as the 37 and 40's
