Prime Mover is a 1988 454 3/4 ton Suburban. Its thye family hauler for our Airstream. It has 84k on the clock and I put the last 12k on it in the last 1.5 years. I bought it from a 86 year old man that only used it to pull his AIrstream. Been the Cali twice. Spent the rest of its time in a car port. Now my wife and kids tear it up. It will pull the 4Runner along like its not even there.

Why?

Nearest trail is almost 2 hours away now. Some are 4 hours.

We have upgraded a lot since my first post.  We now have a  05 Dodge Ram 3500 CTD 6 speed and a 02 Dodge Ram 2500 CTD auto as our daily drivers and our tow rigs.  Now we are looking for a camping trailer to tow behind one of these.  The 02 has a flat bed with a gooseneck hitch so we are also looking for one of the dual axle gooseneck trailers too.

My primary tow vehicle is a class B motorhome, it is just a regular Dodge van with everything. It is a high top I am 6-2 and can stand up straight, only sleeps 3 and one must be a kid. I also have a tent that is huge 20x10 that I put up next to the van sometimes for extra room. Almost everything I own can tow the other vehicle if needed though, my van can tow my Willys, Yota and Ranger, my Yota can tow my Willys and the Ranger and my Willys can tow my Yota and the Ranger and my Ranger can tow the Willys and the Yota. Now my Willys could tow the van but that would be just to scary to even think about.

The nice thing about a class B is that HOA's can't biatch about it since it is just a van, if you have an HOA. Plus you can park it anywhere since it small. Only draw back is no room for nothing.

This towing info reminds me of the time my old MH broke down on the way to Shaver Lake, it vapor-locked on the way up just as the road narrows down to 1-lane each way with no real shoulder, I ended up unloading my 4Runner and towing it up to the gas station on the left. The Sheriff laughed at me when I told him what I was going to do since my MH was a 30' Travco (real heavy).

Thought I would update my tow vehicle and why, I bought a 35' motorhome because my wife told me to. :gap:

My family has a 1990 F250 with the 460 V8. Gets crappy gas mileage, but tows okay. It is lifted on 35"s. Mostly just used for dirtbikes/atv's in the bed. No trailer/rig for me yet. Soon enough though...
And why did we get this truck? Because it was free from my uncle.

My tow rig is a 2001 Freightliner Classic XL, Signature 600 Cummins turned up to 700hp and 2100 ftlbs of torque, mated to an Eaton Fuller 18sp. It doesnt have a shower but has all the other stuff needed to survive on the road. Plust it'll pull 80,000lbs up a 6% grade at 65mph. I have yet to take this one out to go wheeling but I do have another Big truck that I took five rigs out to Naches, Wa for some fun on the trials. I'll post the pic as soon as I locate it. LOOKS B*T*H*N!!! My small truck is a 1998 Dodge 2500 w/ 24v cummins and a few do dads to make it pull. Problem is I keep breakin the dam tranny.

My tow rig:

2001 Yukon XL 4x4 8.1. Tows excellent. MPGs, well, it sucks. 7 mpg is the worst, 12 is the best.
The wifey wanted something nice, I wanted a tow rig. We compromised and got this. Oh well, I guess I can wait a few more years 'til I can get a pickup/gooseneck rig.

03' F250 on 37's 6.0 Powerstroke.  I just finished putting on a turbo back straight 4" Mandrel bent exhaust, AFE cold air intake and Superchip Programer.  If freakin hauls like a bat out of he**.  Empty I'm getting around 18 to 20 MPG and I haven't towed with the new upgrades but I'm expecting to get around 14-15 MPG full of gear.  Reason I got it was because my dad and I wanted something we could pull our boat with and I could pull my rig with.  I sold my DD and took the truck over as my DD.  I hope to someday build a custom goodneck for it with living quarters.  But for right now we just have a truck tent for it.

Man, I sure hope that you don't have problems with that 6.0 since it is chipped.  They tend to burn up turbos that way.  Nice truck though.

gotrocks

well I have a programmer not a chip.  I can put it back down to stock if need be and the shop where I got it from are really knowlegable about stuff and since my programmer doesn't put add more than 100 horse I should be fine.  I don't hot rod it around to much and I put the stuff on mainly for additional fuel milage.  The programmer already gave me 20% increase in milage.  That was before I added the exhaust and intake.

I have a 1979 F-250 S/C 4WD W/460 and C-6 soon to be a 1996 7.3 POwerstoke tranny and T/case.  That is my winter project and my first swap of a gas for a diesel so we will see how it turns out.  I figured a diesel powered 1 ton for under 10 K.  I hope it all goes as planned.

PICS!
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

I love the tundras but just not enough payload for me.  Besides, they need to bring the diesels to the states, then I'd really want one.
