81 Toy California Smog
« on: Jan 28, 2008, 10:20:30 PM »
Im looking into buying and 81 Toyota from Nevada.  The truck doesnt have any of the Smog components in the Engine compartment or the Exhaust. It has a 22r  What would I need to add?

the 81s were actually a lot wierder than the later trucks for some reason.... was the vehicle originally a nevada vehicle or was it originally a CA vehicle? it might make a difference...

It had all the California emissions originally so I thought that might make it easier.  Ill get a manual, I was just trying to get some ideas.

it used to have CA emisisons and its all been removed... that sucks... try to find everything that a CA truck had then, and piece together a new system... otehrwise you are hosed

What is everything,  I know ill need a Cat

Not if the smog sticker under the hood says "non catylist"  That's what my 80 says and I passed cali smog sans cat, they never batted an eye at it.

sticker under the hood will tell you a lot,Chilton manuals have schematics, you will need a lot of parts and Cali smog is more complicated than federal smog, federal limits are more laxed
