well i got a update  the gas take side is patched up ................ out of time  to do what i did to the drivers side which was not planed.

I cut a big section out  welded some 3 plates together befor i welded that in.

I put a piece in the frame to cover a hole which then i patched from the out side.

OK update     im done for now :thud:   and it felt weird driving my truck  after being in a s-10 for 2weeks.

The inside of the tank was spotless :disturbed:  the sock was clean  8)    and i got my new stuff in  :_order:    I chased all the bolt holes and anti-sized every thing  then lots of paint  i just gooped that stuff on thick.

Thats it for now  till i take a week off  :driving:

well back to the moter :thud: it's been getting worse.  it's been missing bad on cold start up  after it warms up it runs rough.

Poor gas miles  can smell gas driving the truck, but no leak
Truck has started to use anti-freeze  i put some in last week  and i just put a lot more in this week :thud:
Crank seal is starting to leak got to replace that (not motor running bad related)

Heres what i have covered so far.
1. TPS, good
2. cold start injector, good
3. new cap & rotor, good
4. AFM, good
5. water senders ,good
6. plug wires, good
7. air filter  , good
8. vac lines  , good
9. change plugs ,  aging

I Still have to do a compression check   and leak down. Rad test
Note: after leting the motor cool of for 6hrs the rad still had pressure.
Note: LC injectors are really loud can here them inside the cab. ( my first suspect)
Note: already adjusted the valves
Note: truck is not over heating well not that the gauge is really useful senders good  but the gauge never moves past cold.

IM thinking  once aging i got another crappy LC product    + now a leak some wheres  maybe head maybe intake :dunno: yet

well it held pressure over night and most of the day so i don't think it could be a HG    maybe a small crack in the manifold and when it heats up it leaks................

Hey unc Man u have been busy !! All the repairs look great.   If its eating coolant and you cant see if its external then I would have to say your HG is leaking into #4 via the coolant port between 3 and 4.  Mine leaked like that for well 6 months before it finally got bad enough to force me to change the hg.
If you can post pics of plugs 3 and 4 close ups.  Plus have you done a compression check yet ? Heck a leak down would be even better.

The rule of thumb I was taught was re torque after 1000k miles then again after 5000 miles.  Its not a spec its just someone experience.

Did you use oil, or ARP lub on the ARP studs? That can change the torque specs. I doubt they stretched under normal load ARP are top notch.

I also had oil in my runners, PCV valve was junk, blowing oil into the intake.

Good Luck! Atleast the bottom end is still good...

That head gasket looks gross, especially for the miles.

Joe, what are those scratches ?? looks like they go cross ways side to side??

Oh and its been running EXTREMELY rich,  when you get it back together you need to adjust the AFM to compensate for the cam

From looking at the picture of the head it looks like the machinist ran the CNC to fast leaving a coarse (but uniformed) machined finish or the end mill he was using had a chip in it. Although it could be alot better i doubt that had anything to do with the head gasket failing. As long as the head is true you should be fine. i work at a Machine and MFG shop so i seen stuff like that once in a while.
