Have you guys noticed any deer that are still orange?  Most are gray or blued out, but I've been surprised by how many were still orange, even a couple that were half and half.

:headscratch: the deer around me are brown. totally different breed though.
i just got back from hunting and ended up spooking 6 deer. i was walking out to my spot around 5:30 and saw 3 pairs of beedy eyes staring at me. they were low to the ground so i thought they were just possum. my head lamp was still on them as i was walking and next thing i know the "possum" grew 4 feet tall. i froze in the middle of the field hoping the deer wouldn't run, but then i hear a loud homph and all 3 took off.

after standing there for a few minutes a real possum crawls by me. i changed directions hoping not to spook anymore deer when i hear anoise in the direction of the real possum and think nothing of it and continue walking. a second later i hear it again and look ot my right to see the silouete of three more deer, just ten feet from me. yep, you guesed it another loud homph and off they went. stupid deer are supposed to be sleeping at 6am not eating. :tantrum:

Is you huntin them whitetails boy?  Never seen one yet, but yea, blacktails are a breed all their own, despite the common misconception that they're a sub-species of mule deer.  Mule deer are actually a sub species of them!  Columbian blacktails are small deer, but if you ever get up north around alaska and see the sitka blacktail they're very big, though their racks stay small for some reason :headscratch:

You shoulda gone chris :shake:  Even if you don't like the zone, it'd be better if you're hunting with people.  It's a lot harder to get bored when you're hunting with others.

Ehh whatever. I saw the deer. It couldnt have weighed more then 90 pounds. My third member weighed more then the deer gutted and skinned. This thing was tiny. I dont care. I wasted 25 bucks by not going this season but whatever.

Ah, see, that's why I've gone so long without shooting a deer.  I don't see a point in going through all the hassle for a puny little deer, especially if I'm back in a ways.  I'd rather beat myself up dragging out a big deer than save a little energy dragging out a yearling with a small fork...  I figure I can always drag it out in pieces if need be!

I'll make you feel better:  I jumped one pond in the vinyard sat afternoon expecting geese shooting bbb shot and ended up jumping about 75 widgeon, mallards, woodies all within 30 yards and didnt get :pokinit:! so many I had time to shoot 3 times, reload and shoot 3 more times all in range but the shot just went around them I guess

brainlessfool

I spent two days at Mendota and saw 3 duck just at the eagde of range, only got off one shot at a spoony. and missed.

I'm going to go cry now. :rivers:

could be, butt woould not be a big hang out for them. by the time they get that far south they hang down in the valleys.
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

Doof

guess ill just go find a spot on the river with my amigo friend and buddy

kneedownnate

Back when I duck hunted I spent most my time on the river.  Not a lot of jump shooting opportunities round here on public lands, but I really liked pass shooting anyway.  If I could find some spots to go I'd be tempted to buy my stamps again though.

there might be a couple ducks at the highlakes but theres a hell of a lot more at the several refuges that are just as close to you in the valley.  The vinyard I hunt is right in between napa and sonoma by the napa river and word is he has another vinyard with a big deer problem!!

:whip: get on it...isnt there a special permit for farmers that since the deer are eating their product they can kill as many as they can, as long as the deer are in the fields or some :pokinit: ?

Ramrod

ya i'll probably just wait till next year I already have 3 deer, 1 bear, in my freezer besides all the other stuff and turkey season is opening this weekend also and those take up alot of space

Doof

bear?   did you use dogs or did you stalk and find it?

ive wanted to get a bear for so long
