Are marlin mods doing their duty?

I love everything about this forum
I think we need help
why do I care?

I have been a very active member of this forum for just over a year, and I'm now looking for somewhere else to share some offroad, and Toyota info. I don't want to leave, but like others before me the forum doesn't exactly suit what my needs are. OK ya ll this is gonna get kinda tense, but there really is no need for it to be. I have a few questions and I need them answered.

I want to know what the mods duties are. If erasing curswords, and stopping pics in the shoutbox is it, then this forum has too many chiefs. If the mods are supposed to negotiate what info , and pics are worthy of being posted in Marlins image, then maybe there aren't enough chiefs. I'm not volunteering for any of this , I just wonder how things are supposed to be done around here. If the mods are supposed to be responsible for bringing new and better things to this internet community then where is it. I have felt at home here for a while, but now I'm wondering.

IMO, the mods job is to "moderate", which means to delete or lock any thread that is felt inappropriate or in the wrong spot.

No thats not it at all. I don't like Pirate 4x4 either, though some of them guys are loaded with lots of good tech.

Is it not clear enough? I want to know what the mods jobs are and if they are doing them. I want everyone's opinions on this too, not just from the mods, who would instinctively get defensive. I'm not attacking anyone, just clarifying my opinions of how this board works so I can decide wheather or not to I run off and find a new home.

why do you need mods or anyone else's opinion to make up YOUR mind?

that's what I don't understand, isn't it ultimately up to you to make your own mind up on whether or not this is the right scene for you?

maybe you should ask yourself these questions and base your decision accordingly.

Yes shamb your right, and I do feel like I fit in here(like a square peg in a round hole), but there are some things here that bother me really bad. I try to give my opinion then I back down becouse I fear starting an e-fight. I will pm ya with some details if ya want. Bascally if the forum is good for everybody them I am a minority, and should find a new home , but if things need work, I would be willing to help however I can, short of being a mod of course.

If I were you I would never feel pressure to back down. We have had some serious ass talks about politics and religion...and if things remain civil, for the most part, on those two subjects...then anything goes. If I chap some body's ass then we will hash out our differences. I think I piss off a few people or at least alienate them...because I have a very acerbic wit and I ofttimes say things that are funny in my world, only to take pause at the thought of unintentionally hitting a sensitive spot for someone. The only times I take off the gloves are in political threads. The only things that don't fly around here are the crudeness of some other forums...the internet gives some folks a sense of anonymity in general and anonymity breeds coarseness. I've only met a few people from this forum, but I believe everyone here is a decent person and would be the ones to help a stranger on the trail. No one busts anyone's chops for asking the same questions they've heard over the last decade, no one makes fun of the other guys rigs, no one talks crudely about you wife/daughter/mama. I think the mods are fair, but I only know my interactions with them. I don't post much in the tech sections...because by the time I read a thread...it's been answered. Maybe that area is different than the chat forum.

Is my answer to your questions on the cage one of the things your talking about?  Dude I hope I didnt offend you at all man.  I was hoestly trying to answer your good constructive questions.  I dont mind it at all.  2 of my best friends came over and beat the cage to pieces and it was only to help me.  But I do see a difference here, people will give good advice without saying go eat a bowl of ....., tear your eyes out and poor bleach in them.  I could go to a local bar and hear that.  It seems like Marlin's site has class to it and is family friendly, and the mods help keep that here! Just my 2 cents.  I would hate to see you go and If you hate my cage and want to tell me pm me   I dont know if this helps at all, or if it is something else that is bothering you.  I just thought you might have been mad at my response. :dunno:

kneedownnate

I'll voice my opinions, but only if it remains civil and there's no pressure to "come up with the exact example".  Team ramrod has voiced his opinions on things in the past, as have others, and I feel sometimes it needs to come to light so people can be kept in check.  Heads can get big sometimes and double standards are implemented more often than some of us would like to see.

This is and can be a great forum, and I do feel the majority of the mods do a great job of being objective.

in part  i believe this  is what  this thread is about,  i know Michael  and  he  put  alot  of  effort  into  researching  proper  geometry  into his  cages,  and  since Matt was made a moderator  "believe's" that since  Blingn has mod status  some  youg  guy  browsing  the forum for his first time  might see Blingn's  cage  and  think thats the proper  way to build a cage,  and  the proper  material.

now  while this  is fine for Blingn as this is  HIS   cage  and no one elses  and this is what he had to work with,  noone  has the right,(besides  anyone in the passenger seat)  to really be concerned.

but   i understand  Gittinits  thinking

however  Blingn's  cage has absolutely NOTHING to do with him being a moderator,  thats to do with his knowledge  of  trails  ,trail use issues  and  forest service functions in California.

Keeping in mind that Matt was made moderator of the Land Use, one of the reasons being is that Marlin and Mike live in Fresno... :headscratch: 4-5 hours away :dunno: And are both way to busy to be driving up here to meetings to fight for our forests, so they were kind enough to ask that Matt simply keep them informed.  As we don't see much action in the Land Use section ::) Matt is trying to bring it to life and get some member involvement.

As for his cage, it's his business. Don't judge him as a person because he chose to build a cage that you don't approve of.

In my opinion, it is a moderator's job to balance a threads worth with its obscenity, vulgarity, or general distastefulness, and to set the limits on said threads and monitor and manipulate them as necessary.  Here on the marlin board, we've got several different mods, and I could pick out flaws with all of them.  I don't agree with all the things some of them say/do, and when I don't, I'll speak up.  :dunno:

So many different groups of friends on here, and most of which are directly related to a mod or couple of mods. So when you "report to moderators, you would be like telling someones friend on them. The mods on here stick together, and some are just "in" by association. Its like jr high!

Oh damn FFC you got it all wrong. I aint holding mat personal for anything, I just think that he as a MOD should set an example worthy of following. I think that all Marlin forum members should set that same example. This all cues back to the same way I feel about New members getting bashed(GLEN) for having trail gear parts. I feel that Matt will do a standup job as a Land Use Mod, and that is not even an issue here.

Why don't yall get it? its politics, and setting an example. I based my build off of what I read on the internet, long before I sighned up here. I think thay those that come after us should be shown and encouraged to do things safer better, smarter, and more responsible. Matt should understand what I mean, its the same way he as a Land use Mod should feel about our trails and those who occupy them.
