« on: Jul 28, 2007, 10:48:22 AM »
Its pretty muh every newbs questions and im askin it now. I want to eventually run 37's, but I got 35 boggers right now and that means I dont need to spend $$$$$. Should I just put 4.88s now for the 35s and then build a 5.29 3rd member on the side and just switch emm when i put the 37's on. HMMM I dunno man. and im running 33's right now would the 4.88s be fine with that.

I would just put in the 5.29's now, and be done with it!  Especially, if you plan on going to 37's anyway!  The 5.29's will make it easier to turn the boggers, since they are a heavy ass tire to begin with!  I plan on running 4.88's only because I don't plan on going higher than a 35".  And I (will) DD my rig too!  :cheese:

5.29 gears you will loose alot of top end on the hwy!  4.88 will still give ya decent hwy speed!  This is why I'm gonna run 2 sets of tires.  A light hwy set, that's good for on and off road, so I get good mpg.  And an aggressive set for mainly off-road or winter time!

SO all in all putting 5.29s with 33s wouldnt hurt anything and the 35s would run fine

38.5x14.50 sx's strong 4 banger and 5.29's. unless you are running a 3.4 go with the 5.29's.
my 37" mtr's do just fine on the highway, but the 38.5's are about twice as heavy and i can forget about 5th.

black truck is me
other truck has 35x15.50 boggers and 5.29's with a good motor. he actually needs the 5.29's to get where he is going.

mike

ps i hope this helps, you are only gonna want to do this once.

My rule of thumb is anything over 33's on a daily driver 5.29's with a 22r or re. If its a part time driver and wheeler i would say 4.88's are fine becasue they are stonger but 5.29s will give you a lower crawl ratio. Hell for a trail only rig 4.10s are great casue there a dime a dozen and strong. Plus you can make your gearng up in the transfer cases which IMHO is were it should be. Hope that helps.
