glad this thread just got back from the dead...

i got my auto permit back in february, and i have another 4 seesions (1 hour each) to go until i complete driver training, now i want to get my motorcycle permit. mainly because next year i will probably be commuting about 20 miles a day to and from school. im only 15 so i wud be the youngest person around here to have my M1/M2 (whats the difference? :dunno: ) i need to talk to my neighbor, i think he has a ninja 250, ultimately i want an enduro bike to eliminate the hassle of having to load it up to go trail-riding when its so close to my house... but there are lots of trails around me so i can commute the 10 miles each way to school woth out touching much pavement...its nice.

also nate: im just up the road from you, dunsmuir.

:psss:  I know, we've talked about it a few times before

I want a dual purpose bike too, but might opt for a super motard.  I'm contemplating fixing up both my spare bikes and selling all 3, then maybe get something different for the street and get a dual purpose.  Who knows what'll ever happen though :dunno:

i htought we had maybe possibly talked about it, but couldnt remeber for sure. :dunno:

the newer super moto bikes are BAD! onkly problem is that i would end up putting a dirt tire on and destroying the bike...

have you ever seen any of the new Husaberg? part of KTM i guess, but they are also super sweet, enduro type bikes. my bro had one, and dam it was crazy...

Is this a recent aquisition for ktm?  I thought husabergs were german or some oddball place, while ktm's are made in austria.

im not sure how long they have had husaberg, i think theyre from Sweden or somewhere near there, somewhere in europe, nice bikes, and fast as hell.  he had the 650fe and he said it topped at 128mph. on a dirtbike? yea, thats scary...

Just checked and they're swedish, but now built at the ktm factory.  I was thinking swedish, but I know husky are made there so I thought I was tricking my mind with the hus* :dunno:

Actually Husaberg did originate from Husqvarna...  Something about a Husky engineer went off on his own and got backing or something like that.

Anyway, the big Husabergs really rip if you know how to handle a big bike.

Wasn't it something like a pissed off, or pissed on engineer?  He thought husky should make more aggressive bikes, and they thought he should keep his opinions to himself?

Yeah, it was something like that if my memory serves me correctly.  Sounds to me like Husqvarna lost a good engineer...

I love motorcycles!!!   I have three bikes

An `04 Crf450r           it's for sale!

An `07 KTM 525exc.....yes it's a dual sport!!! :bayer:

And my `08 Harley Street Glide

Keep the Harley sucks comments to yourself!!! I love it!

When I ride the dirt bikes I have on all the gear. Helmet, chest protector, boots, elbow pads, riding socks, knee pads, kidney belt, riding pants and riding jersey. Yes it's some money for all that gear but it definitely helps in keeping me in one piece.   :talkingn:  I ride the dual sport on the street with work boots, a helmet, and gloves but I don't ride it on the street very often. On the Harley, I have a brain bucket. My dad has a Harley also. We have talked about getting full face helmets for long rides on the highway. You have to ride with what is comfortable for you but you still need to be protected! Start with a small bike like others have said. Work your way up to your dream bike.
`87 runner....it was stock....now sas'd, 37's, duals, geared/ locked, 10in bob, half doors, rock lights. etc., etc.,.........coming soon a 3.4 swap!!!

I didn't realize how annoying it is -- it automatically starts playing whenever this page is loaded :smack:

But very, very true. I counted 15 passes :dunce: and of course I did NOT see it :eye: :eye:

Hey Nate,

I've not asked you this before, and since I might be getting one this summer, have you ever ridden one before?

I know its difficult to find parts, but I've got an excellent connection to Japan where the Honda Bro is easy to get parts for and sent to me

I know I've read about how excellent it handles, yadda yadda, but I think everyone says that. I mean I could tell you a Ferrari handles great, but I've never driven one!

I have seen the Hawk in person, and it did have a short wheelbase. I loved it!

Thanks
BigMike

It's a honda hawk, only made in the states for very few years.  It's a 650 v-twin and is one of the few bikes to come with a single sided swingarm.  They're neat and unique, but don't have much power stock.  They're not gutless, but v-twins usually have a bit less hp for their size than an inline 4 of the same size has.  They do have a cult like following and it's tough to find one cheap, not to mention lots of them have been converted to race/track bikes.

The one in that picture looks like it has a custom seat and tail section.
