before you do something "major" with your cars and driving.  Meaning: change them out for more fuel efficent ones or get rid of them or carpool or....????  Seriously, how high?  $4.00 a gallon? $4.50 or even $5.50?  Whats your "number" :headscratch:

realisitically, most people will jsut keep buying it no matter the cost... it's eitehr that or i don't go to work..... if it surpases the point where i will lose $ by driving to work, then i will quit working, and wont need to drive anywhere

i have heard that it will start to slow around 3.75 to 4.00. but i have a friend that purchases all the fuel for one of the military instalations ( i wont say where to keep him out of trouble) but he says the military instalations are getting their fuel for about .78 a gal thats right seventy eight cents a gallon :headscratch:

Well, I already traded my 13mpg Dakota for a 20mpg 4runner, I think next will be trade in the Jetta & 4Runner for a Tourag and a Venture One.

Hey Drew, my GS500 is getting 50-55 MPG and I drive the living crap out of it. I mean I drive it HARD. Are you on some 80cc scooter or something?

I am pretty much on the same page as Drew since I daily drive a motorcycle, something I should have done A LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG TIME AGO :_order: :_order: :_order: :_order: :_order: :_order: :_order:

The Rock Crawler is really fun to drive with all of the power and with all the heads it turns, but when its costing me over $50 to refill it about twice every three weeks, compared to the Bike which gets me 150 miles per $10 for a full tank at $3.59 for 89oct here in Central Cali, the Bike is roughly FOUR TIMES CHEAPER than my Crawler to daily drive, not to mention the reduced wear and tear on my 37" rubbers and wear and brakes, etc. the Bike paid for itself in the first 6 months!

But because Drew and I are willing to pay $10 per gallon when we can make 50+ MPG, remember that very few people would pay $10/gallon to fill their 25 gallon tank in their Maibatsu Monstrosity for $250 per week!!

So clearly at that rate, the demand would drop to the basement, so the price would never make it there.

The world will change a lot once the UN gets their world government established and distributes the wealth to every one in the world.

Well, right now it has changed it enough that I have looking into getting permission to put my motorcycle in the hanger at work so I can take that instead of either of my trucks to work.

The whole idea of buying a car that gets better gas mileage to save money just stumps me. if you truck or car is paid for, how can you justtify a 300-500 dollar a month note to save less than that. if you drive cross county and a prius will cut it for you then I can understand how that could save you money.

I figured it out a while back when I wanted a liberty with the turbo diesel in it, I would have to drive several hundred thousand miles to make back the purchase price of the truck just to get 8 more miles to the gallon... or mabey it was just that much driving to pay the difference between the Liberty and the Xterra I was looking at, I don't rember now. so by my figuring at least, gas is less expensive than a new car.

gas prices undoubtedly suck though. I work in the oilfield and I want to assure you that the gas prices are NOT trickling their way down to my level... :snare:

There is a fine line between clever and stupid, I just wish I knew when I crossed it.

meh,
Mabye when I start paying for most of my gas again, I'll decide.  Driving a work truck has its perks :disturbed:  I believe my truck was filled up about 3 weeks ago, mabye even a month ago.  Oh yeah, and I've got 1/4 tank left.

Looking at getting a bike this summer, more for the fun of it than for economy, but thats a perk for sure

Even at $4.00 a gallon, it'll cost me 68.80 to fill up my truck.  I can live with that (would rather not)  but I can.

That's the sad part, and its what the oil companies are banking on.

If you knew you had 3 trillion? dollars worth of business yet to be done, would you want to lower the price? Heck no.

Luckily myself and a few other board members do know about bikes, so you're covered   BUT, if your'e buying one strictly for the good mileage you need to weigh the initial cost of the bike + bike insurance + atleast a helmet and cheap gloves + buying tires about 4-8X as often as you buy truck tires for about $250 a pop against the cost of driving your truck!  Doesn't sound like such a great idea now, does it?

It's pretty sad that's coming from a guy who lives and breathes bikes, but it's the cold hard reality.  Yes, I'm a professional buzzkill

How about the Jetta TDI with a maual tranny? A friend of mine bought an 2005 in Alaska & drove it from Alaska to Fremont CA. Around 50 mpg. You can't get the maual tranny TDI in Cali cause the state wants everyone to drive automatics (for pollution reasons) but you can get one out of state.
