That's the sad part, and its what the oil companies are banking on.

If you knew you had 3 trillion? dollars worth of business yet to be done, would you want to lower the price? Heck no.

I don't think any of us would want to lower the price.  I just have to look at how much it is worth to me to keep driving, and how much that out weighs the cost of gas.  Once those switch, and the price of gas out weighs my desire to drive, then I'll take other options.  I'm already looking into biodeisel for my next vehicle, but for now I'm stuck paying for gas.  I already drive my truck as little as possible, and if the prices go up higher, then I'll drive it even less, but its still the same thing.  My desire is to drive is worth the cost of gas right now, and will be for a while.

you know, it amazes me some of the people that complain about gas prices.  I was filling up my work truck today (3.38 a gallon, shell)  and this lady was bitching to EVERYONE about how much gas cost.  She is doing this as she is filling her 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, and drinking her 6.00 starbucks :headshake:

Excellent point BD   I don't hear near as much bitching from the people driving some 80s cars as I do from the moron with a $400 a month car payment!  People should worry less about vanity and image and more about true value or worth.

Luckily myself and a few other board members do know about bikes, so you're covered   BUT, if your'e buying one strictly for the good mileage you need to weigh the initial cost of the bike + bike insurance + atleast a helmet and cheap gloves + buying tires about 4-8X as often as you buy truck tires for about $250 a pop against the cost of driving your truck!  Doesn't sound like such a great idea now, does it?

It's pretty sad that's coming from a guy who lives and breathes bikes, but it's the cold hard reality.  Yes, I'm a professional buzzkill

500 for the bike
140 for insurance a year
200 a year in maintenance

riding a POS dual-sport in 28 degree weather passing everyone gettin 70 mph

A little different for me:

$2500 for an $8000 bike when it's 1 year old
less than $1000 to fix it up, woulda been less just to make it ridable
$70 or so for insurance
Maintenance?  What's that :haha:  Ok, maybe 2 oil changes a year totalling $100

0-60 in a shot over 3 seconds... being able to sneak to the front of a looooong line of cars at a stop light

PRICELESS

And motorcycle superstore occassionally has smokin deals on tires, so does cycle gear except you can often find a cycle gear easier.
