W56B 5 Spd with Type 1-A Transfer case?
« on: May 04, 2007, 12:06:45 PM »
I have a 1980 with a 22R that came with the L43 4-spd trans and the Type 1-A (21 spline) top shift transfer case.  I had Marlin send me a 4.7 built replacement crawler transfer case of the same type.  I'd like to swap in a W56B 5spd transmission.  Besides modifying the crossmember position ( I have the Marlin dual case crossmember) will the Type 1-A transfer case input mate up to the W56B output and will they bolt together?  Will my Marlin clutch 8 7/8" diameter work with the W56B, will my hydraulic clutch bolt up?   Looks like I will need to change my driveline lengths a bit since the W56B is a bit longer.  Any other gotchas that would make this swap difficult?

Thanks

going from a L series tranny  to a W  you  will need  to lengthen the front shaft and shorten the rear shaft much like  installing dual cases

i would recommend a L52HD  i  mine

the L43 shifter  will be about a foot  forward  of there  the w56  shifter will be
