so guys, i've decided on swappn out to straight axle. i found an axle, not too nearby but for a bit over $500 + another $100 to ship to me. how is this price? i was told it's a complete, "85, good condition axle and it's coming off a stock 4runnner. so i'm thinkn an 85 is good, stock ride is good, and good is good....so being that these axles can be a pregnant dog to find.....should rock the $630-$675 deal?
any and all opinions welcomed and mad props you guys helpn us dumbass noobs out!! Cheers!!  :beerchug:

they told me I was off for spending 450 on an 85 front and rear axle, a topshift tcase, w56 tranny, and superlift front springs, but, now that Ive got into it, I beleive them, I probably would have put in the 75 dollar knuckle kit anyways, but this one needed it. who knows about the tranny and tcase, and I now have to buy superlift bushings, becuase I am missing one. money down the drain. OH YEAH, the plines on my birfs would tell me that they are not worth it to cryo, so I need new birfs.  how many miles were on the truck?   HOW MANY WERE SPENT OFFROAD? I mean, if this runner was someones spare vehicle, used to go play in 4x4, that front axle could have 150k miles of offroad use on it. wait till new years, go to pick and pull, buy there axle at half price, find a dana 30, and return it as a core.....
Sand, what fun, drop pressure to 12psi, stock tires are still digging, can't afford to get stuck, 8psi, still not working. Find a place to GET OUT, air up, un-lock hubs,  WAIT whats this, hubs are UN-LOCKED already. 2wd, 8psi, stock tires, Oregon sand dunes.

i am in Lost Angels, Calif 90301.
and i called another guy yesterday said he wanted $450 from a rolled 1985-4rnr, missing one locking hub and maybe a couple other parts.... :headscratch: should i just go down to one of these spots that claim to have an axle and go inside with $275 cash and make that as an offer?
from readn' boards i started out figurn' say $300 for the axle and $1000 for new locker & gears. :help:

Should be able to find one out here for less. I found a front axle, rear axle, tranny and t-case with drive shafts in Lancaster for 300. Found that in the Recycler. Call CAl-Mini in Pomana, they might have a better price:beerchug:

A bit over 500.00 was what they were ging for in N Cal 10 years ago. I guess they are less desirable now. I remember when a Cruiser disk axle could be sold for 1K !!

Now, just go get a D60 for 850.00. Go figure.

So Cal prices can be through the roof.  I called Cal Mini and they quoted me $450 for a stock toyota 4:56 3rd and a shop in San Diego quoted me $500 for an 82 or 83 front axle and $600 for an 84 or 85.  When I laughed at the axle prices the guy tried to tell me he can sell stock birfields for $300.  I wished him goodluck.

I was reading in Petersen's 4x4 a while back and there were some guys who were building a toyota and they wanted a stock axle in the front. They found one in the junk yard for $800 and thought they were getting a good deal.  :hammerhead: Has anyone else seen this ad. I will try and find it and give the whole story.

i bought my 84 for $500 from a member here, due to not having storage, he wanted to sell it....

i have noticed that that actually happens a lot, people buy projects, and then either run out of money or a place to keep it, and have to sell because of one reason or another...

you can usually get a prett ysweet deal because of that....

my 84 xcab was complete except it doesnt have an engine, had a tranny, g52 and g292 gears

eh... i got one for 100 bucks, i just needed the housing, so i sold the hubs for $85, the nuckles for $40, steering stuff for $35 and the third for $100, i made some of my money back.

Gittinit

I usually buy whole trucks from anywhere around $200 and up.  Most are in complete disrepair, but toyota fanacitics are few and far between too. Most local offroaders think a muddy hole or a leve are the most extreme obsticales ever. I currently know where a few trucks are I could get for under five hundred that would make some of yall jelous. As far as axles go I have had some just given to me including a disc brake fj axle that I don't know what to do with. :dunno: I may have to hual it for scrap.

If I had some cash to start with, I could make some big money hualing trucks to cali. $$$$$$ :bling:$$$$$$$  Man sell one part and make twice my money back! :woohoo:

Actually I did sell the tires off of a truck I drug home and made all my money back, then sold some more parts and doubled my money.

man in colorado, $250 is to much.  thats what i paid them liek a week later i found one for 200 then 150.  650 is out of control!!! man good luck and you could probably drive to colorado buy an axle and drive back for less then 650!
