project black and tan; now for sale
« on: Jan 17, 2007, 11:56:50 PM »
project black and tan build up will soon begin
right now I'm collecting parts and trying to get this truck mechanically fit.
i have been home almost 2 mo now from a 9 mo deployment to kuwait/iraq.
1st thing was a heart transplant.
a couple dollars later thanks to ramrod i got a healthy motor.
it was my 1st motor swap. wasnt to hard but iam still trying to work out my little bugs.
here it was and here it is

Did you score that motor from Pat, it looks like the motor out of Ramrod?

i was gone all weekend so i wasn't able to get any work done but tonight i was able to sand the foam down a Little smoother and put on some more sealant. prolly tomorrow i will be able to paint. i plan on doing the whole wheelwell. i was also able to sand a small bit of the body. I'm going to do it the same as i did yotawills old 1st gen. 3 coats of bedliner spray and 3 coats of engine semi gloss. just the bottom half and the fenders. i cant wait to finish my tail gate cause its pretty bad. 3 diff colors of white. i also removed all the badges from the rear. going for a cleaner look and easier to paint.
Tues i got smog
wensday I'm getting the rear spring hangers welded.
yeah its the heart of ramrod
the motor runs great but I'm having little problems with all my old smog crap. workin it out though.
we went snowboarding last Tues and it did great i actually passed a few cars going up a hill. that was unthought of with the last motor.
I'm thinking of getting a bigbore TB in the future and playin with the mass O2. also had to put in a new radiator cause i F'd the last one up not paying attention.  :hammerhead:
good times

i picked up a new hood today from one of our local bone yards. new aftermarket. now i got to take the good with the bad.
good= got a nice new hood. bad= since the front of the truck is beat the latch and hood hook dont line up corectly. so for now it will be the good ol cargo strap.

had it smoged by Toyota today.
 :thumbdown:failed
the mechanic was being a Richard. but the shop manager was being cool.
told me what to fix and come back.
i ordered another egr valve and pcv hose from calminitruck. should be here tomorrow.
said my egr has no vacuum??
its all hooked up right so tomorrow i will take another look and see if i can figure it out.  :dunno:
oh and my fuel regulator wasn't hooked up
it failed the pretest and they said it would score as a gross polluter if they really tested it :smack: :hammerhead:

last night i had my rear spring hangers welded up. had them set up 6" forward. iam not all that happy with them though. they hang down pretty far and seem like they will snag vary easy. i hope to build some ramps for them but not any time soon. and at 6" they sat right on the bend. but rick welded them up like crazy i will try to get a better pic of them tomorrow so you all can see.
