Isn't it crazy to look back and see how we were freaking out about $2 per gallon.  Sheeeet I can't even remember $2/gal. at this point.  I think I filled up for $3.19/gal. for 87 last week, but I know it's gone up since then. :(
RIP Kyle, we love and miss you man.  :smooch:

i paid $1.89 this morning.  just kidding.  it was $3.45 a gallon.  some kind of alternative fuel has gotta come out sometime soon.  i can barley afford to drive to work and back.  half my paycheck goes to gas :maddest: i'm going to have to pull my bike out and air up the tires here pretty soon.

I don't know what it is...we don't have any refineries, we're not on the way to anywhere. I guess we're just lucky.

Should I post a pic of me filling my first tank of gas in 1988?  I was pumping regular, leaded gasoline and the sign in the background had 58.9 cents per gallon on it.  Priceless
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

EDIT: I just want to state that I support our men in the war. Whatever the reason is, I support the soldiers because they are putting their life on the lines for me. As for reasons why we are or are not at war, I do not have a real strong opinion on this. But I have always supported my fellow country men in the service.

  That is so awesome!  Post 'er up!   I can totally remember when I was little...I'm gonna guess it was about 1986-ish, and my mom had a little ORANGE Datsun 210 station wagon.  hahaha.  I remember I'd insist on paying every time we filled up, and she'd hand me a FIVE DOLLAR BILL and I'd always say "is this gonna be enough?" and she's say "it BETTER not be more than that!"  hahaha.  Oooohhhhh those were the days.....

Nonono!!  It might sound like a good idea, but it doesn't work out too well. Speaking as someone rapidly approaching Geezerhood, I was alive & well when federal wage & price controls were put in place during the infamous Jimmy Carter administration in the early Seventies.

What I recall is that my wages were frozen while prices continued to rise, some quite quickly.  And shortages, good grief...  anyone else remember gas rationing, and gas lines, and stations with no fuel? (I know, Arab oil embargo...)

Last year during Congressional hearings regarding oil companies' outlandish profits during a time of escalating prices, I remember one oil exec essentially telling Congress "Price controls will result in decreased supplies", pretty much threatening to create artificial shortages in retaliation.  Naturally, Congress responded by doing what they do best -- absolutely nothing.

My goal in life is to be as a good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

If you don't learn something every day, you're not paying attention.

Ask these guys if price controls worked and made their countries prosper.

What's really burning my rear is why hasn't there been any release out of the strategic reserve?

These damn speculators will run our economy into the ground and I don't even want to get into how bad truckers and the airlines have it right now. In the end it all gets passed on to us through higher prices for everything. Well if we don't lose our jobs first.

Welcome to the start of the next depression v2.0

less fuel taxes maybe??

I really didn't think that was the cause...these people out here tax everything they can.

Gasoline

Ca 72.0

So, until recently, when fuel prices started to get way out of control, the average profit (10%) the oil companies made was one of the lowest of the built-in costs. Federal, State and Local taxes were and still are the single biggest outside influence on fuel prices.
We had one...(one!) freaking refinery go down, look at the effects that has caused. We haven't built a new refinery in over 30 years. Our refining capacity is at 1980 levels and our use has tripled from those levels.
