f150 spring measurments
« on: Jun 24, 2006, 11:42:37 AM »
I need a favor. I just came up on some F-150 springs out of a 1990 at the junk yard and have spome questions. I think the truck was a 2 wheel but dont remeber, was like 105 degrees outside. Anyways, They are a 4 leaf + overload. The center pin looks like its really far forward, to much so to work on a toy. Also, I am rather limited on how far back I can move my spring perch, as my truck is bobbed to the factory spring perch.

Here are my questions:
First question, are the springs the right ones?
Second, what are the eye-center-eye measurments of the F-150 spings that most people are using?
Third, How far do the spring perches need to move in order to accomodate the F-150 springs.

If these questions are answered else where can someone point me in the right direction. I have searched this site for pics and dimension and came up short.

Thanks in advance,
J

Here is a pic.
The spring measures +/- 52.5" center to center, and from the from to center pin +/-23".
If these are the right springs, where do I get new bushings for them cheap?

If your truck is bobbed up to the stocker, you won't be able to run them without either moving the axle forward, or extending something back out to mount the rear hangar, I have 2wd F150 springs on my truck, and with the stock wheel base, my rear hangar is behind where the stock one was quite a bit.

how far back did you move the mount? I am thinking about using a longer shackles to make up for. I really need to (1) find out if I ahve the right springs, and (2) how far I need to move my mounts

lilbuddy  is running f150s,  i think he moved his front hanger forward 5 inches  and using a double shackle  left his rear shackle mount in the stock location,

Yea you should be able to move your front one forward and run a double shackle setup.

I would prefer not to have a double shackle due to the load/unload issues. That why i would love to find out ahead of time if I am going to be needing to extend my frame to get the rear mounts moved back, or if I can run a lot longer shackle. But to due that I need to know how far to move the mounts.

run the long side forward  then you wont have as bad of shackle hanger issues and get more flex.

stock rears are 22.5 eye to center and 22.5 center to eye. if i were to put the longer side of the f150 spring 29.5 forward then that means i wouldn't have to relocate the rear shackle hanger. all i would need to do is move the spring hanger foward about 7 inches. is this what everyone is doing?

Thanks for the info, its appreciated. The only thing about this, is that the clamp would then be on the wrong side. So the leafs would fan in the front not the rear. So i guess you could just make new militray wrap setups. I would want that big of a rock anchor..........

Going from the center of the two holes over where the stock hangar was (I would assume this was the center of the stock hangar) to the center of the new upper shackle bolt, it's 4 1/4" + or - a little.

Is that with the springs installed forward or backward?

id say longside back.  if you mount the longside forward you can retain  stock  if not forward a tad from stock

Yeah, they're long side back, because that was the way that made sense (more for it to run into) and that's how they're mounted when they're on the Ford.
