Yesterday at the dog park my Rottweiler, Rufus, had the opportunity to play with a Pit Bull, Butch, that could hold his own.  It was quite the show of force between the two, but they would take short rest breaks and catch their breath before they would go another round.  It was somewhat intimidating to watch the pair growling and showing their teeth but you could tell that they were really playing fairly gentle other than tackling each other.

My dog broadsided the the Pit Bull at full speed and sent him tumbling.  Thankfully, the other owner was more relaxed that my wife and I because this was the first time our dog had been able to play this rough.  Both dogs were worn out and both seemed to know that they couldn't play that way with any of the other dogs.

It was a  :yikes: when you realize the power of the two breeds.  Good thing they were both great dogs.

I was finally able to get a good shot of my 3 year old black widow, Paz. My pointer finger, for scale which was less than an inch away from her (outside the glass of course :P)

Its hard to get a good shot of her, it only works if she is right next to the glass and I let the camera adjust for like 5 minutes

What made you pick a spider for a pet?  :yikes:

I have always kept black widows as pets, probably since I was 7 or 8. They are just cheap (free), easy pets and they are always good for entertainment. Everyone will probably think I am crazy but I think black widows are beautiful spiders, if you ever sit and watch them move they are amazing in how they navigate, stalk and kill the poor souls that wind up in their webs. They actually live amazingly long in captivity, I had one live for 4 years once. I clean the cage maybe once or twice in their life time and the rest of the time enjoy watching them kill stuff :P

The key is to catch them when they are very young, only a week or two old. That way you can ensure they havnt mated.

Nice, the girlfriend and I have been wanting to invest in a salt water set up, not that big, probably a little Aquapod or something. Just gotta figure out where to put it. What kind of critters do you have in there?

How small you want to go? That's only a 20gal, that's small ("Nano"). I wouldn't go small, stay above 40gal, if it's your first salt.

I don't care to much for the fish so I keep coral. SPS is my main inhabitant.

Well have you heard of the Aquapod? They are small (12 or 14 gallon), self contained units that are only meant for a few critters. I was looking at one at the local pet store. Basically after allowing the system to balance out its good for 1-3 small fish and other tiny creatures like shrimp. not meant to be a big extravagant set up. Several of my friends have them they are pretty easy to maintain. Thats what we would like to get anyhow.

I have 3 fresh water tanks used to have 5.  Now I have a 10 gal, a 20Gal and a 55 gal tank.  I am down to 2 fish in my 55 gal tank when they are gone I plane on switching it over to salt water.

jrock

Aquapods are good, so are Biocubes. Stay away from the Red Sea Max, there crap. These systems are good. I know a lot of ppl running them. If you need any help.

As far as critters, 1 or 2 small fish is all I would put in one of those 12 gallons. 3 if you get a 24 gallon. But I don't count the shrimps and critters.

FW?

Yeah we are more interested in just having a small, balanced ecosystem. We are both nature freaks so having a tiny coral reef in our bedroom is exciting enough. :) Thanks for the offer I will hit you up if we have any questions.  :beerchug:

Technically not mine...  he's my daughter's but I have gotten kinda attached to the little bugger. She named him Dante but I usually just call him Buster (and sometimes a few other names!).  We got him at 8 weeks and he is 4 months old in two of the pics (five months now).
