Closing up for the night :goodnight:

Oh yeah, and I welded up the base of my bumper before Matt got home this morning... Bout all I got to do with the welder  but other than that, we did get the diff's done and found out why the Migo was sitting so funny :haha:

Had to grind down the housing on both the front and rear axles so that the new ring gear would fit in the housing... That was interesting :disturbed:

Got the driver's side birf back in, still waiting on the bearing for the pass side.

Aaaand boy has it been a LONG day!

i had one of those stupid thing blow up on me yesterday.  i was cleaning my knuckle with my pressure washer  and the bearing started spinning and blew up.  center section hit me in the thumb and the rest embedded itself in the stucco on the outside of my house.  i thought i was going to have to go get stitched up.  it cut my thumb half way around and took a chunk out of my thumb nail

See the angle on those bearings compaired to a regular bearing? The cage comes off them a lot easier. You should never spin any bearing up to any speed outside of the races.

Sorry you got hurt. Could have been worse, they could be picking rollers out of your skull.

You are supposed to keep the axles with tires on them kept part way in.

That way if your jackstands fall, there is a back-up protecting your ass.

Notice the jackstand:

Good point.... and dually noted.
However, if it makes you feel any better...

The Migo is butted against the front of the ford

and we had to have the fronts off to get the birfs out to see what the problem was.  It was leaning bad on the pass side.  It was just the knuckle bearing, but we wanted to make sure.

If you use good jack stands with wide bases you don't need to worry. But if you are working on a soft surface, that is still a good idea.

Or put the tire under the body to keep it from falling all the way to the ground.

The way the bumper sticks out on my Ford, the migo would have landed on the bumper before it fell if it were to fall

But Kyle, I will keep that in mind, thank you!

:woohoo: Got to workin on it.... till around 9pm then I ran out of wire in the welder

So I figured the bumper was sitting too low if I welded it up the way I had it mocked up before:

So I got some 1.5"x.75" (?) not sure of the measurements, but it's solid steel... so I cut 2 pieces and welded them together to make em bout an inch and a half solid steel.  Then welded those to the bumper, then the whole unit to the base I welded up the other day:

Looks a lil better now :woohoo: I still have to brace it, and I have plans for that :eyebrow:

But here's what got done before I ran out of wire :disturbed:

Top view:

:haha: sits a lil lopsided... no shocks on er right now :gap:
