OK I have progress and questions.  This week I ordered an MC07 R10 dual transfer case adapter kit.  Time to get my crawl on.   :cheese:

I'm wondering about a few things now:

1.  Do I need to put a CV (or double cardian...same thing?) on my rear shaft?

2.  Does anyone have any tips on shortening my rear shaft and/or measuring to find out how short I need to make it?

I guess that's all I can think of right now but if you have any advice, tips, tricks for doing this install let me know.

Thanks in advance!  :beerchug:

Oh...for a short refresher, I have an 87 pickup with Marlin 4" lift and 2" body lift.

holy crap. I forgot you had a toy. :gap:

I am not very familiar with the MC lift, but usually a CV helps but is not necessary.  It will reduce/eliminate vibes on road though.

You will need to shorten the rear 6.5/extend the front 6.5...but I've always said it's better to do the shafts after the cases are in the truck.  If you can run a cutoff wheel and a welder you can build your own shafts. I use 4 casters 2 on one end, and 2 on the other(tacked to a plate and clamped in place) to center/spin the shaft. tack it in place with the yokes in phase and then use a hammer and a dial indicator to get runout as close to zero as possible.

for measuring, measure the flange distance with the truck sitting on flat ground, and set the slip up about center(depending on your suspension of course) then measure the length from flange to flange and see how much tube you will need.

unclejpl4x4

  U forgot :slap:

ya i would finger out the shafts after U got it in   that way U will have the right ( A---------------B oo B ------------C ) measurements.

use a angle grinder to remove the weld bead on the tcase end of the tube, then cut it 6 inches shorter,  i used a piece of heavy paper(some sand paper is what i actually used) wrap it around the shaft  and it will give you a perfect circle around the shaft to make a mark
a LARGE pipe cutter would be the perfect tool
