I think that your 2.7 taco engine is worth more than the turbo... my grandpa has 3 turbo runners and they are all dogs off the line and run rough after supposivly being "rebuilt". Turbos burn up too quick also.  I think they are only good for freeway, and some hills... so whats it worth? whatever someone is willing to pay! Looks like you have a $30.00 high bid.. I will make it $40!

Sadly the stock ct20 isn't worth jack, now if you had upgraded to a t3/t4 hybrid then the bidding would be on.  Stock setups are low gain/high risk of failure.  If somebody wanted to buy it and upgrade themselves that'd probably be best.

How do you upgrade the turbo? I really don't know that much about them.

If i retro fit it onto my 2.7 tacoma I full intended on an intercooler and bumping the boost by means of wastegate adjustments I also have very big Garrett from a UD 2300 (nissan cabover truck) with a 425hp I6 Diesel. I am a little scared of putting that on the taco, it would probably waste the engine, it's just too big.

dj,

Seriously, you do not want to even play around with the CT20. It is very small, and is known for it's excessive backpressure.

Instead, if you want to keep it all Toyota parts, and stay cheap, then find a CT26 Toyota Turbo, commonly found on the 3S-GTE engines, from 1991-1993 Toyota MR2s and 1991-1995 Celica Turbos including the Alltrac models.

The CT26 is a big improvement over the CT20, not to mention it's a larger displacement Turbo, which is what would be better for the 2.7.

I would rather run the larger CT26 Turbo at ? 60,000 rpm to get 5 psi instead of running the smaller CT20 at ? 80,000rpm to get 5 psi.

BTW, about 5psi is all you are looking for, right?

Why not run a SC14 Toyota Supercharger unit from a (domestically) 2TZ-FZE 2.4l Engine (Previa SC) or (internationally) 1G-GZE 2.0l Engine (Soarer)? It's a 1.4l displacement, which is just smaller than an Eaton M92 which is used on V6s and V8s.

I still really want to Supercharge my 2.7, but I still think that I will find a rainbow somewhere with a used TRD Smog Legal Supercharger sitting at the bottom of it. But if I get around to it next summer, I will definately fabricate a setup usign the Toy SC14 and nothing less. I bet with just a 1.5 pulley ratio it would eaisly boost the 3RZ-FZE to 5psi. Hell, the SC14 I ran on my 1.6l 4A-GZE Engine in my '87 MR2 could sustain almost 18psi at almost 8,000 rpm.

Anyways, for ALL Driving Conditions, I would much rather have a Supercharger than a Turbo ANYDAY. I've driven both Turbo and SC cars, and I hate having to (1) wait for the boost and (2) not being able to control the amount of boost with the skinny pedal. Once a Turbo starts boosting, if you try to regulate it with the throttle, it'll choke it and kill the boost. Not the case with a SC. Then add a homemade SC Boost controller (the bypass valve method) and you can run any psi you want, from zero to max.

And it I can get 5psi from only a 1.5 ratio drive system with the SC14, then it would save loads of power by not having to spin the SC as much. Heck, I think I had a 2.2:1 ratio with it on my 4A engine. Crazy

Thanks for the input, the theme here is cheap and different from everyone else, I have been keeping my eyes open for a supercharger but have not ran across one yet.
I am wanting about 4-6 psi any more than that would make the combustion temp too high, cause detonation and hurt my engine
