wow! you cut off that wrap cuz it was gay looking?  a military wrap on a spring is there for a reason.  Those things are probably gonna bend to :pokinit: and if you break your main leaf there there from the factory so your axle wont fall out.  those things are definitly pretty crucial IMO

Dude get some safety glasses on!!!  I have had metal stuck in my eye, and had to have it dug out with needle and tweezers and its not fun.  Plus if it gets in there and rusts its toxic and can make you go blind!!!  :punish:

Sluice Box Hero

the military wrap was bent straight out on one of the springs, he tried to pound it back, but it wouldnt go, so he had to cut it off, it was only a little of the wrap.

tonight we got the lift plate welded on and the perches re-drilled 1-1/8 forward and the knuckle ball gussets welded on.  i think kyle is nervous about tapping the box, how difficult is it?  i cant imagine it that difficult, and do you need a seal kit or not?

im sure he has plenty of pics too.

I would replace the seals while you have it apart. Replacing them later is a PITA. Tapping is easy...just follow the write up on here. Compressed air is a big help. Make sure you get every little bit of shavings out of the box. oh, and lastly.....whatever u do, dont pull out the input shaft thingy with all the ball bearings....they are difficult to put back in correctly.

Buy a seal kit and rebuild it while you tap it. If the 45 bearings fall out take the cap off the worm shaft and insert them there as they work there way in. Takes 5 minutes to get them back in.

damn kid get some safety gear on! sitting in the ER for 2 hours then getting that :pokinit: dug out of youir eyes aand wearing a patch for 2 days sucks way more than throwing on apair of glasses.

trucks coming along nice you gonna make the hammers this year ? looking forward to wheelin with you again :boozer:

KYOTA

oh and make sure to use the hydro asst threads, pretty hard to f#ck up the box when drilling it out you'd really have to be trying hard to drill past the vein and into the box

if you DO this......be careful not to bend or break the little ball tube on the input shaft when reassembling.....if u do..u CANNOT order just this part and it will destroy a perfectly good box! ask me how I know!

the military wrap on the toy rears goes all the way around the main leaf and then kinda just shoots straight out and looks terrible, not that anyone would notice but it bothered me so i cut it so it stops right at where it was going to shoot out. the D50 is another project thats being constantly worked on. im using my 2 friends shop and theres 3 projects going on at once between callens new 1 tons toy (well the 60 front) colbys, D50 on rocks thats came along HUGELY and now its just a million and one small things to do like fuel cell, battery placement, tab work, blah blah check his thread on pirate. theres a link at the end of page 10 on here.

it still wraps around it will be ok. i didnt take it all off. im building bump stops so it wont trash the springs. the pass side already has a bend. (the 3rd leave: marlin)

the box is DIALED! no leaks. the problem is my steering pump. it leaks BAD. im going to pull it out and check it. should i extend the resivor? i need to seal it one way or another cause i know it will puke so bad if i just leave it alone. the old leafs and frame are covered in fluid.

look in my buildup. Do the same set up and it will work great.

For your steering pump you should swap in a Saginaw pump for more pressure http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=630765

well i got all the knuckle ball gussests welded on the axle today. thats about it, i was pretty lazy about working on it today.

EDIT: i forgot to say, i put some 42" iroks up next to my truck today an all i can say is bad ass. im definetally going to jump straight from a 37-42 and not even mess around. i just need full width first. the front axle is way forward now.
