About a third of the way down on page 2, I posted a buncha pictures of how I did mine. Pretty simple, cut (straight), grind paint down, weld back together. I had to do minimal metal massaging to get it to line up perfectly. Didn't use backing metal either. I highly recommend using a cut off wheel (if you are pretty accurate with them) to cut the bed up. I'm sure if I used a sawzall on it, I would be throwing tools for hours trying to get it to line up as good as I did. Good luck!

Ramrod

ive bobbed 3 or 4 beds and always use a cut off wheel on the outside for a super clean cut without waves and a sawzall on the bottom cuz its fast and easy over the ribs or the floor

boggerunner

i  prefer a gringer with a cut off disc, and a sawzall for the hard to reach places.  just need a good welder that u can turn down enough so u dont melt holes

Hammer down time for Hammers!
alright boys and girls so in about 2 weeks or so im gunna really get my truck going for JV. i have a lot to do by then but none of it is really to hard. just time consuming and $$$$.
The plans are:

Clearance the bed
bed bob (mayyyybe)  ::)
rear bumper made with hoops to protect the bed
relocate my shocks / \ with single shackles
eliminate the blocks all together or cut them down to atleast an inch
turn my front marlin 4" pack into a hybrid pack, axles going ---------->
plate and move steering box forward as much as i can
brace the spring hangar
deff need  :turtle: DUAL ULTIMATE crawler! so thats gunna go in with the new clocked adapter.
gunna get a bud built skid but i have questions about that before i buy one.  :dunno:  :dunno:
an get drivelines worked on.

so i have a lot to do and cant wait to get started. ill post as i go.cya

wow, definantly bob it. back when i had truck instead of a 4runner i bobbed mine, and it came out awesome.  i say do it.

kiyul4130

so i emailed bud built a little over a week ago and i finally got a reply. my question was concerning a skid/crossmember for my duals. i have a 2" BL and was planning on getting the new clocked adapter plate from here which would give me a total of 3 and 3/16" of more clearance under my truck when i lift up the drive train. heres what he had to say and has anyone seen or is using this setup? :dunno:

""Yes, we have one that is designed for that situation! If you want a skidplate or not, we hae the right one.We make one taht is just a tube from framerail to framerail.  You can then add a flat belly skid to cover the whole thing. If you want a more noraml skid, we can do like our dual case skid, but with a clocked mount.  The tube version is $300, the skidplate version is $350.""

i also have a question about the tube setup? how would you run that. do you notch the tube and then run the tube on either end into the plate?? i think the skid would work better for protection. opinions please.

looks like it just bolts up to the tcase and the frame.  I think it is a waste of clearance over the skid design,(tube is thicker than 3/8 plate) unless you put the tube above the tcase?

kiyul4130

i believe this is how its installed. you cut the tube and run it into the tcase mount. so the tube wouldnt be below the case. heres a weird drawing i did of an above view.

ya i forgot about yours. do you think you post up a good pic whenever you get the chance of yours. i remember you briefly telling me how you know someone that makes the tcase plate for a $125 or something. id rather go that route if its possible. thanks

my work makes that plate for $125 with the ends.  maybe a little less for just the plate.
