Monarch made a 4-1 back in the 80s, that's what Marlin runs and it kicks ass.

Downey makes a 4-1 and so does LC Engineering, both are great headers and I will probabely run one some day.

North West makes a 4-2-1 -- known as a Tri-Y -- but they are difficult to order from and I have never used one.

I am sure some other companiese like Hooker might make headers for 22Rs but I bet it is just something the make to fill their online catalog with. Stick to the Yota companies, such as Downey and LC and your do great

FYI, 4-2-1 offer good mid range power, while 4-1 offer good mid-high power. But focus more in the actual size of the primaries (the ID size that will be bolting right up to your head). Smaller sizes will allow for better bottom end and torque while larger sizes will be the opposite.

Regards,
BigMike

i've got the north west one.  it made a huge improvment in power.  it fit perfectley and i don't use gaskets for it at all.  but it is high in price and i'm not too keen on thier customer service lately.

I run a Downey and I'm happy with it. I installed an L.C. Eng. header on a friend's truck and It worked well also. I'd try and get something that is ceramic coated if possible. My Downey isn't but maybe they are doing it now. Chrome plating does not last on headers. Good luck

I have a early tri-Y not Northwest  either, a Downey prototype. It definately hangs a little to low, but it's a awesome power maker.  Go with the Downey's  there pipe attachment is better than bolts.

I bought a NWOR header and love it. However someone in that company is a true bastrd.
My header came, around $400 after all was said and done.
I installed it, and it went in easy as pie.
WHen I had opened the box there was a smudge of grease on one of the tubes. I didn't think anything of it.
After installing I went to wipe the grease off along with all the grease I added to it.
The coating was chipped under thie grease smudge
Someone had chipped it and covered it with grease. Well the trick worked and I wasn't going to take off the header, so I will never ever ever order from those dope smoking idiots at NWOR!!
If I had to do it again I would buy a Thorley header from www.truckperformance.com. The link to the 1985 efi header is there.
The design is the same and the price is much better.

Anyone know who makes NWOR headers so we can order direct??

I think the thorley is the best bet they make a great product and they stand behind the workmanship. I have installed them on all sorts of vehicles front 750 hp 502s to 2.4 liters toyota motors. they work and make power. most of all they work.

I'm kinda off topic here some but I noticed reading these posts that I am not the only one who had trouble with NWOR.  I hate those SOB's and I will never buy from them again.  I put a set of their urethane motor mounts on my stock toy and when I pulled the engine less than a year  later for repair they had fallen apart. I tried to get them to make it right and they basically told me to go to hell that I was supposed to use limiting straps.  I showed them where there catalog suggessted straps for crawler gears not on a stock truck but they still did nothing..... :b_s:

I run a thorley on my 85 EFI and it made an awesome difference. I also added a full 2 1/2" exhaust, Flow through cat and Flowmaster. Nice power and good sound.

O as for NWOR.. The only thing good I hear about them is on their motor mounts. I hear nothing but bad about the company and it's products.

i'm not going to use nwor anymore.

i talked about this earlier in this thread.

http://64.246.40.82/~marlincrawler/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=techsup;action=display;num=1033322038;start=36

if you do buy something from them, don't buy their aluminum rockers.  they will ruin you cam and possibley your motor.  and they don't stand behind their products.

i even had on of those guys there hang up on me when i was explaining to him what had happened.  what a punk!

i jknow i'm not ordering from them again.  the guy that hung up on me had a spanish accent and he doesn't have a clue to how a toyota 22r motor works. :psss:

had a thorley, broke it at the flanges.  Had a downey, always leaked at the gasket, then it cracked at the 4-1 flange, bought an LC and have had it for 8+ yrs. and is flawless, even still has the ceramic finish looking good.  Buy one.  BTW, used to do a ton of duning with my truck in the past, thats where i broke a ton of stuff, crawling is much easier on gear.

NWOR=Bastards! They are too expensive, Rude, Stupid, and totally flakey! I bought a Timing chain kit from them. They screwed up the Credit Card. I had to pay about $50 in shipping to get it in time. Loosers Loosers Loosers!

My choice would be LC engineering.    I installed about  a year ago still like new never change coating VS downey header last only a month ....coating is gone!!  LC header is 100% bolt-on no need cutting  well build . price is about same

Well I think that I may have some fresh info, I run a Headman Header and I dig it. I think 2 years ago I paid like $120, and it still works just fine. ( although the black coating did fade a bit after about the first week)

Ok got my Header installed. Looks great, went in as easy as anything could be. The sound didn't change much but that is probabally because I have yet to do the cat back. That is next. I get a good power response from about 1500 with smooth pull all the way to 5000. I reccomend LC to anyone!

I'd like to put in another vote for LC engineering.  Awesome ceramic coating, not too mention it's 16 guage stainless under that.  I have one on my 81, and noticed a little bit of power increase and some sound and mid rpms.  But when I do the rest of my exhaust is when I will really feel it.  I would definitely reccomend LC, awesome customer service and product.

Summit carries a Pacesetter header that I hear works well, plus Summit is great to order from.
Size doesn't matter... yet.
