Special Toy service tool?
« on: Apr 28, 2005, 06:28:37 PM »
I'll be replacing my L50 tranny with a rebuilt L52 as soon as Marlin can put one together for me.  Looking at my repair guide, it says I need a special service tool from Toyota #09305-20012 in order to pull the shift lever.  Do I really need it or can I improvise with something home built?

The shifter?  There are 4 12mm bolts that hold the shifter onto the tranny.  No special tool needed for that unless i am missing something you need to take off inside the tranny.

you can do it by using a pair of needle nose pliers too, push down on the spring loaded cup thats at the base of the shifter and turn it counter clockwise a 1/4 turn to release the shifter.

OO, didn't think of taking the shifter apart.  But why would you need to do that unless just to change the boot?
